Instead of a TV I have a projector to watch movies... tv is evil. A year ago my lamp went out and I had a replacement. I replaced it, but kept the old lamp. During Casino the lamp exploded and scared the crap outta me. Since then we couldn't watch anything because the lamp exceeds the cost of a projector.

Last week my girlfriend cleaned the old lamp, adjusted the wiring and got it working again. It still has problems firing up, but after two try's it stays on. I have looked this up, but I can only find answers to questions about the lamp not working, not in relation to it taking a few try's to get going.

Does anyone know what's going on? Could this be the projector it self?

Thanks in advance.

Do you handle it while it it still hot? Does the cooling fan run? Do you go through the cool-down procedure before turning it off. My InFocus DLP one has a lamp hour meter and the lamp is $440. They are proud of them! Do you know how many hours you're getting out of the lamp?

The cool down is for the turn on circuit not the turn off circuit. Without knowing the brand and model# no one can help him.

My Infocus HD has a warm up and a cool down. Have you checked thru the menu for the hour counter?

This is when I first turn it on.

The brand is Sharp and the model is XV-Z1U.

The cooling fan does work.

The lamp I have used for a few years (2 probably) but I didn't use it at all for a few weeks at a time. I would imagine I have used it for 500 hours. I know the lamp is supposed to last 2,000 and newer ones can last 8,000.

I bought it used, but the previous owner hardly ever used it. He lived next door to me and I never saw it in use.

I will check the model# you gave me but, some projectors have a filter circuit for the fan. Look to see of there's a door for the fan and check for a filter and clean it. I also have to tell you there's a good chance that when the bulb exploded there was some circuit damage. The buld generates alot of heat and also creates a gas when it's broken so that's not a good thing for the projector. Most of the time when a bulb explodes it's from a projector that has'nt been properly maintained throughout the lifespan of the unit.

I looked up your projector and I hate to say but get rid of it. I could'nt find a bulb at all from 3 diffrent mfg's that I do business with so the unit is obsolete. No offense but maybe it's time to step into something that's HDTV compatible and has more than the 350 lumen output your currently watching. I won't ask what type of screen your watching thie projector on. If you want some good info on projectors PM me
