View Full Version : Just a thought.....

I don't know how it would work or how well it would work, but is there any way to start a thread or an area of this site for quick questions? Like if someone has a question about changing a light bulb or something they can go to a certain thread or area of the site and just ask the question and get a quick answer back without getting a flaming? Just thought it would help to clean up the site a bit instead of creating a thread about changing a light bulb, you can go to a thread and ask the question and have it answered RATIONALLY and without flamage. Just a thought and like I said, I don't know how or how well it would work, but would help to clean up the site a bit I think. Thoughts?

Like if I had a question about CBT really like me or not or does dakslim find me sexy? Just thought it would help to clean up the site a bit instead of creating a thread about am I cute enough for Janet Reno, you can go to a thread and ask the question and have it answered RATIONALLY and without flamage. While the thought is a good one, Tom, it would also require the restraint of all those that feel they need to add their two cents, whether helpful or not, and for some, I'm not sure it's possible.
I'm glad many of us have come to know one another, whether having met in person or not, but sometimes the banter invades every thread and becomes less helpful to the thread starter. It's harder to weed through looking for the info that is actually an answer.
Unfortunately, I believe your suggestion would require more moderation to keep the threads clean and we really don't have the time to clean up in aisle 5. I would hope that some do take your suggestion to heart and back off from the need to just increase post count. We have a wonderful site here with so much information but sometimes it is hard to work your way through the superfluous chatter.
As a reminder, we do have a "Reviews" section that is a great place to share the "how to's" and look for answers. I'd encourage more use of Reviews. Find the link at the top of any page in the Nav Bar.

Thanks! Like I said I didn't know how or even if it would work. Just a thought. To start a thread about how to change a lightbulb is kind of ridiculous and I was just wondering if there was some way to prevent this. To me, it seems crazy to start a thread about a light bulb. If I have to replace a light bulb, I go out and figure it out. I don't post a thread about it.
I realize I am EXTREMELY guilty of the useless banter among many other men. I am glad that I have gotten to know these guys (though having never met) and it is fun to joke around, but like you said, it is crowding and overtaking threads.
Is there a way we can all limit the banter to just Dom, Bawazir, and CBT threads or something? hehe

I would like to see a section with the electrical schematics, so it would be easier to track down problems.

Yes! That would be great! I am pretty electrically inclines and can read schematics well and if we could get pictures or pdf's of schematics etc... or how to pics, that would be great!

I am forum impaired, so I'll ask while we are off topic here. Is there a way we can "vote" or otherwise leave a type of feedback for a thread that we found useful? And then those votes will bring those higher ranked threads to the top of a search list? I see how some stickies have gold stars on them and it seems to be this type of feedback, but I have no clue how I could vote for a thread myself.

I think they already have something like that called a "Sticky"? I am not sure, but I sometimes here that a thread should be Sticky'ed which I am guessing means marked as a contributing thread....

I actually just found it. At the top of the first post, to the right, theres a rate the thread option. This whole time I was distracted by the pretty colors and didn't notice it. :(

Yep, at the top of each thread it says "Rate Thread." Stars will show up next to the thread name when you use Today's Posts or New Posts for the list of threads.
Heh, typing as you updated your post. ;)

I get most of my info for wiring, torque specs, and many other things from Alldata.com. The cost is minimal and usually pays for itself the first time you use it. I have even registered customers cars on there for timing belt procedures and specs, seeing as though anything after the primary car is way cheap.

The wiring manual is 160 pages and the service manual is 1,100+. Besides it being copyright infringement, I'm not scanning all those pages!
It's well worth the price if you tinker with the car yourself. $137 for the service manual. Wiring diagrams came with Phoebe. Having the info at hand has already saved us hundreds of dollars in labour. <cite>www.helminc.com/

Here's another resource:

Bought my Ford Shop Manuals through Lorie and Jeff, good folks to deal with, reasonable prices. BTW, there's not a separate manual for the MM, it's included in the '03 and '04 Crown Vic/Grand Marquis manuals.
