This doesn't have to be anything you currently have. Maybe something you had last year, 20 years ago or still have. Bascially just a car you actually raced (yes even if it was trailered) even if it was at a circle track.

I have nothing to post, but I'm sure a few of you have some goodies or did.

Post em up!

I have a 2nd gen Firebird going together with a 350 chevy retrofit roller cam engine w/ aftermarket iron heads, 4 speed, and mass air EFI. Should run high 12s, pretty basic setup. I previously had a 73 Dodge Charger with a 383 mopar that I built (BB Mopar), that car pulled great for such a heavy tank. Have had a LOT of other cars but most wouldn't be worth mentioning under the requirement of "fast" since most normal v8 stuff runs 14s or slower

I've seen mid-90s Plymouth Voyager vans running at the track.

Does that mean they're "fast"?

Only cars I've ever run at a track:
-My Marauder
-My Magnum
-My dad's Horse GT

A variety of Taurus SHO's (90, 92, 94). The 94 was by far the fastest ... it was slightly modified, the rest were pretty stock.

Both the 65 Ford dump truck and the mustang on the trailer were the fastest I ever built owned and ran on and off the track.

I use to pull wheely's with the dump truck and that was with the plow on it and it took the trailer hitch to keep it from flipping over granted that was with granny gear.
I put in a 428 Police intercepter for an engine and it was making over 500 HP when all was said and done. Hade Ford Purple devil cast Headers running into open stacks with no mufflers
and a Holly 1250 on it. Compression was 12 to1 when it was done.

The mustang came with a 429 cobra jet and a shaker hood and when I was done to it it was running a solid 9.25 quarter mile consistantly. Detroit Locker rear end hurst 3 speed tranny
with a 100 pound clutch you had to lock your knee just to hold it down. Between the cam and compression I could not get it to idle under 1,200 RPM'S or it would stall. 14 to 1 Compression
with dual holly dominator carbs and a full lift high duration cam shaft and did away with the solid rockers and put in adjustable one's with over sized valves and a 4 way seat on each.

I used to love the F-Body LT1 and LS1s until I drove one (weird seating position, huge floor hump long hood blind spots) and asked how much they wanted for a WS6 Trans AM. I drove away with a 2000 Mustang GT instead. But those LS1s are bad ass H/C/I and knocking at 500rwhp

It is done except for the PDR guy (paintless dent removal) getting his hands on it.

I love it. My wife hates it, so it is perfect.

I put alloys on it and lowered it 3"/4", load levelling bags in teh rear, cleaned it up a bit, lettered it, etc.

The thing is a rolling billboard and makes money by splashing our name around town.

wow, some great cars, as a car guy I like them all. Marty you should post all your cars you have so we can see. Fast is all relative - and I go by the old adage - it is more fun to drive a slow car fast than a fast car slow. Anyone who's been on a road course can probably understand that.

Great cars though so far

I've never tried the 1/4 mile in any of these (nor care to), however, these were mine:
1995 Mustang GTS
1992 Grand Marquis LS HPP early build (had the CVPI PCM that took it to 135 behind a chipped MM)
1989 Mustang GT Convertible 5 speed
1989 Mustang LX 5.0 Automatic
1987 LSC

Yes. GM's LS motors are sick. Easy to mod and make tons of power so easily with mostly bolt ons.

I was the opposite. I thought the Mustang was too upright for me at that time. I used to have a 1989 Pontiac Formula WS6 T-tops and 5spd. So Getting the SS was a no brainer for me. But now with my back I would probably pass on the F-body for a Mustang.

Here's my toy...

http://www.racesystems.com/cobra/images/Cobra003.jpg

This is a widebody cobra kit with a very stout frame designed by Jim Kellison of Kellison Race Cars back in the 60's. RIP Jim, you are missed.

If you want to see all the pics of the 8-year build; they are on http://www.racesystems.com/cobra

The car is powered by a custom long-rod "tiny" 385 series Ford big block. 433 cubic inches, 7.8:1 compression, purpose built cam, ported blue thunder heads, ported victor intake converted to EFI by me, Forged dump-truck crank, billet rods, forged pistons, custom EFI hat by me, and runs FORD Mustang EFI parts. The blower drive stuff is all custom by me, and the blower is a custom YSI from Vortech with a prototype impeller. It has a prototype adapter that allows a T56 viper transmission to be used. These are common now. And, a Ford 9" rear end. Rear tires are 390x710x17 track tires, fronts are Kumhos. Car ignites the tires starting at freeway speeds if you tip in just past half throttle with 14lbs of boost. I've never driven a car that can do this...and it's not as cool as you might think. I drive it with 4psi most of the time, and it'll still get out of shape at freeway speeds in 3rd as it passes 6K RPM. Redline is 8500. Cam peaks at 7800.

It's insane, to say the least. And, lots of fun. There is nothing funnier than catching up to a rocket bike (R1, for example) and proving to him he's not the fastest thing on the road. The look they give you is really amusing. I've not 1/4 miled the car. My data logs (the dash is a SnEEC Datalogger powered touch-screen...a product of mine was used as the basis of the dash) suggest the car is capable of mid 10's on street tires and is spinning horribly. It would need a lot of suspension work and some very good drag tires to hook up...and I hope it never does. I'd probably total it.

This is a widebody cobra kit

Neat car for sure.

What makes it a "wide body"?

We worked on a factory 5 car at the shop and it had a 6" stretch and I could actually fit in it. Although, it was a tow pedal car and braking with your left foot is a must.

I bought a new 2004 GTO with a 6 speed manual and it was by far the fastest car I ever owned. Only owned it for about 5 months, I got mad at it one day because I had something that wouldnt fit in the tiny trunk and just sold it. A couple of weeks later I bought my MM. My GTO got no looks from anybody and was a bit more cramped inside but it was an absolute screamer.

http://www.racesystems.com/cobra/images/Cobra008.jpg

The Kellison/West Coast chassis is longer and wider than the original Cobra, and most aftermarket Cobras.

The rear end is a full lincoln width 9" ford. The rear body protrudes out a good 3-4" further per side than the original 427 Cobra style chassis. The body is also stretched as you described; with a dropped footwell and is designed like a monocoupe tub. With my Kirkey seats and custom seat brackets, my 6'4" 300lb body fits such that I can extend both feet and not touch the firewall. I can drive the car comfortably and reach all 3 pedals comfortably with no foot-collisions. It's a great chassis/body for a large frame man; and VERY strong. The FFR frame is a much more modern design; Kellisons design is a "throw steel at it until its strong" design; take a look at the pictures on my website at http://www.racesystems.com/cobra and you'll see just how much steel he threw at the rigidity problem. This is the only car I've ever owned that doesn't flex AT ALL regardless of where you put the floor jack. The bad news is that the car weighs 2910lbs before the interior...so figure 3000-3100lbs right now in completely finished form. That's not a light Cobra...but the power plant more than compensates for that shortcoming; I don't miss it much. :)

Byron
