I could go to the dealership and look at another 04MM, but you guys are great at responding!
My volt gage looks like it is dented on the bottom, but it is a "clean" form, so it maybe just formed that way , because of the shorted distance to the shift console.

When my father got both of our 03 marauder's (first in February, second in June), they both had dented gauge clusters. We had them replaced, but it must be something from the factory if both cars baught about 4 months apart had the same problem.

My son Gage didn't do it, nobody saw him do it, you can't prove he did it...:P

Seriously though, if it bothers you, show your service manager, and ask about a replacement. Too bad it wasn't the oil gage, you could have had them put a real one in with free labor...your cost on the gage though.

Now, as far as your screen name....I'd like a large cheese, with the works...say in a half hour or so?

I just learned that gauge was an imposter today!

Wait, the dealer can install the real gauge free of charge (as long as I provide the gauge?)?

I wouldn't hold my breath...especially since the sender also needs changing AND the wiring in the dash pod needs to be re-worked...

Since you wouldn't be replacing the gauge with another factory unit, it's unlikely the dealer will do the work at all, free or otherwise, but it's simple enough to do youself...look in the FAQ...

I guess I don't understand. Are the Oil & Volt guages really just for show? If so, what do I need to do to get real ones that match?

The volt gauge is accurate, however the oil pressure gauge is a dummy. Either you have pressure or you don't. Please check the FAQ (http://www.mercurymarauder.net/modules.php?s=&name=FAQ) .

Rick: I took our advice and looked in the FAQ and I don't find it...something get dropped or deleted?

AndyB and KraziKid: Yes, the factory oil pressure gauge is a fake...it's just a glorified idiot light that always indicates the same pressure (approx 60 lbs) as long as the actual pressure is above 6½ lbs  ...both Summit and Jegs (and others, I'm sure) sell the REAL AutoMeter gauge and sender, P/N 4327 for about $55... replacement is relatively easy...simple hand tools and about an hour...if either of you is interested, send me a PM and I can talk you through it...

As LML said above, the voltmeter IS real, however...no need to replace...

6 ½ lbs... wow, think about it... I can develop more "pressure" than that after a simple visit to Taco Bell!
