No, smart azz, this was. 1950 Pontiac Silver Streak 8 with dual exhaust and lakers underneath. Paid $200 bucks for it. That's me waxing the car...Simonize...the only good wax then but what a job. Phew!

Mine were functional and weren't on the side but under the car...had to crawl under to open them up manually.:P They were basically straight pipes...no mufflers or nuttin. Pretty loud but that was the thing then.;)

I thought the name came from Bonneville and the pipes were used when making dry "lake" runs back in the 50's. They had cutouts and only functioned open, otherwise exhaust went thru the muffler for normal street use. Anybody else remember it that way?

These are the original exhaust cut-outs or bypass used at the lakes and drag strips everywhere right up into the 60's.

Several people I ran with had the cut outs. They would have to crawl under the car and take off the screw on caps for them to work.
