Not Marauder-related, but interesting nonetheless. Both BON and autoextremist.com are reporting the return of Shelby to Ford. Here's what autoextremist had to say:

After investing ten+ years in establishing "SVT" as their in-house high-performance brand, Ford is cancelling the entire program. Ford will kill the tasty SVT Focus next year and suspend production of other Special Vehicle Team vehicles for the 2005 model year. Ford will then debut new high-performance products in the 2006 model year - led by an all-new Mustang Cobra and F-150 Lightning - which will most likely carry an official Carroll Shelby designation. This dovetails with the announcement made before the SEMA Show that Ford would be bringing back Carroll Shelby - the man (but more specifically the name) - to give luster to their performance products of the future. Lost in the fog of nostalgia fueled by the Ford GT program, apparently, Ford believes trudging out Shelby will immediately lend the kind of cachet to their high-performance entries that they didn't have before. The only thing we see the octogenarian adding to, however, is his bank book - but that would certainly be consistent with Shelby's "M.O." of the past 45 years. The folks down in Dearborn seem to have forgotten Rule No. 1 when dealing with Carroll Shelby (no big surprise, since half of them weren't even born the last time Shelby was hanging around the Glass House) - and that is the simple fact that with Ol' Shel it's always about the money, it always has been about the money, and it always will be about the money.

That's a damn shame if it comes to be.
SVT was doing just fine.... except there is no SVT Panther car.
So maybe the bastards are getting what they deserve, yeah... deny ME will they? Out the door , you no good small thinking bums!

Interesting reading. Don't know how I missed that when it was posted...

The Detroit News article seemed to say that SVT will just go on hiatus and come back better. Autoextremist made it sound like SVT is done - to be replaced by Shelby. Maybe SVT will just be the magic behind the scenes or something...

Please. SVT ain't going anywhere. SVT products are always put on a hiatus during a platform change. Focus is going away because it isn't selling well enough. Mustang and Lightning are going away to retool for the new platforms.

The may shove the word Shelby on the Cobra, fine, but I wouldn't expect too much more than some additional marketing hype.

I think autoextremist is taking an extreme interpretation of things.
From the articles I've read SVT isn't going anywhere. A break for some models during 2005 is going to be just that.
As we know from other discussions here, 2005 marks some required changes due to upcoming changes to epa and other Fed regulation as well as implementation of technology changes. This was one reason given for a lapse of the Marauder.

People are applying their own interpretations to things as usual.
It's previously been said that SVT is working with Shelby for reintroduction of a "Shelby" Mustang

It would be kinda silly to drop SVT being they just put out a car that's beating Vettes (not Z06). They've come all this way with the Lightning as well.. The name "Shelby" might bring in some sales, though. People have been talking about this happening since "Gone in 60 Seconds" and "Eleanor".

Special Vehicles Team is a marketing division, where is it going to go even if Shelby becomes the new Boss?

The people behind the scenes that produce cars stamped with the SVT logo are Roush people in prototyping stages and Ford people in production stages.
