Sometimes when I think my 12 (Ryan) and 9 (Riley) year old hellion sons will be grounded for the rest of their mortal lives, I get a wake up call. My eldest son gave me a call today and told me he nailed a perfect 4.0 average for his final grades for 6th grade. He is in the GT (gifted and talented) program for all of his classes. The curriculum is brutal because they try to wash out the kids who will not be in the program for 7th grade and beyond. It sounds kind of funny, but I have a whole new respect for him. He has most definitely moved into a new chapter of his life and obviously understands the importance of school, even when he is being a lunatic around the house.
His 9 year old brother who is also in the GT program, pulled straight A's as well. He is one of those kids who skims the text book the night before the math, science, or English test, and earns a 110% because he even gets the extra credit correct.
I let them in on a little secret... In my whole, illustrious, academic career, I never earned an A in any class; and maybe one B in 7th grade gym.
Since I don't have a Marauder anymore, I can't really post about my car, so please accept my "goings on" about my kids. I have always found this forum to be a fun place to hang out and share. Thanks for letting me share!
I like the stories about the kids and family. It brings some much needed relief around here!!!:D

I would have to use whatever meager schoolin' I had and invent a time machine to travel back so I could sterilize myself before that cataclysmic event would happen...(All in good fun, Dom)

Congrats to the young men--they are building a great foundation for their future. My youngest, Cindy, was a G & T student , recieved a full scholorship to Texas A & M and has been highly sucessful in everything she has set out to do---G & T is a big challenge with great rewards. Your support, as parents, willl give them the encouragement they need. Let them vent some at home--a safe place to do it and so essential to their development. God bless, Maury

Some of the most talented people in the world got perfect scores in school and work at Walmart.
Its what makes you happy that counts.

Lucky for me the corollary to that is that some of the least talented people with bad scores end up successful.

Hey great to be proud of your kids!
I have two kids who i am very proud of.
My daughter is 12 and very much a normal 12 year old girl. She is an above average student, fit and attractive, has many friends and has been easy to raise, so far!, lol.
But it's my son who just turned 16 who really swells my chest. My son has had and has many issues, he has allways had trouble keeping up in school, to the point where he is now going to a high school for children who would just not make it in the 'normal' school. Anyone in the london ont. area would likely know of Sir George Ross secondary school. This school attempts to send it's graduates directly into the workforce, in grades 11 and 12 students go on four two week work assignments. My son has shown a talent in welding, finishing on "top of the class", his teacher is now trying to secure him a spot in a welding enviroment for his work terms starting next school year. I'm hoping he will gratuate with his welding ticket and a job with a company that knows him through work experience. Work with what you have.
His other big issue is his size, he turned 16 this past tuesday, he is 6'5 and 375 pounds. He has been a monster since day one, he has no neck, it looks like his shoulders grow out of his ears but he is truly a gentle giant. He has never, ever been aggressive despite being picked on by incredibly scawnny kids, lol, for being different. I'm '6 300 pounds and consitered {i think} more tough than fat but he can bounce me around at will, i used to playfully wrestle with him but not anymore. Yes he was in football for 3 years, had all the coaches drooling, has a two championships which he was a big part of but doesn't play now because a couple opponents got hurt and he just won't do it.
"Be all that you can be" is a US army recrutment slogan but really it's the best you can do for your kids.
"You can't fix stupid" isn't allways true.
