GM still can't figure out overhead cams, huh?

They did back in the early 90's. Remember the DOHC ZR-1 Corvette back in '91 or '93?

DOHC is Fords gig. Chevy needs to find a new way to make HP. Why not electronic valves and do away with all the chains, cams, oiling..... blah blah blah.

They've been trying to perfect that for some time now.

As a life long Corvette man, I must come to their defense on that point. The small block chevy and pushrods go hand-in-hand. But I submit the following...

Flame on. :flamer:

Not crazy about the looks either, but one conceptual image isn't enough to go by. I hated the '97 Vette when it came out, but it grew on me. The kit car looks took some time.

I was gonna say, Chevy has always been big on the pushrod engine.

I really like the looks of that concept vette, I hope that is released. Looks better than the stingray concept in transformers..But it does have a Ferrari-ish look to it.

New Vettes have a similar scoop, I kind of like it on them. I agree that the front looks like a cross between a Ferrari California and 599. I HATED the Stingray concept. I know this is a retro era of car design, but I don't know if they'll ever match the beauty of the 63-67 mid years. The gills in the concept do nothing for me. Give me a 70-72 egg crate look, and then you're talking.

That wasn't a GM motor, it was foreign just like the Northstar series they're Swedish.

True, I believe the LT5 in the ZR-1 was a Lotus design.

Yes this vette needs the hood scoop. It would be too naked without it. And it works well on the current C6...Z06 at least.

Dear GM, if you're doing a scoop, make it a stinger! (even if it's not functional)

Nothing wrong with a healthy pushrod V8...Those 'LS' engines are simple and run plenty strong.
In fact, I'm investigating a way to get an old school pushrod V8 of say....ohhhhh.....
521 cubic inches under the hood of my Marauder.
I'm kinda tired of trying to make serious HP out of a dinky DOHC.
I like being able to make 770 HP all day long without worrying about breaking anything....N/A of course!
I wish FORD hadn't saddled the Modular engine with such puny bore spacing.

the displacement is wierd to me, a LS series with 5.5L, seems small to me. They are 6.2 now making the same HP so if they can hit it more power to them, they already get stellar gas milage with the 6.2

Pushrod mills sit lower in the vehical for better areodynamics/fuel efficiency, have fewer parts, less parasitic drag, and make better torque at lower RPM's due to the small valve area and the inceased intake velocity.

Also, the ZR1 (AKA The Seize R1) had a lot of problems at the beginning. I wouldn't want one even today. I believe they were assemled by Merc cruiser.

They need a smaller engine, the current Camaro is out the window in 2013 or 2014 and it will share its platform with a new Caddy called the ATS which is going to be the new "small" Caddy as the CTS takes on some mass to replace the STS.
