I'm looking for a daily driver for the winter months (Nov-Feb) to get the Marauder off the road.

Does anyone have any experience with the third generation V8 SHO's? I know about the cam problem and found one with welded cams.

Thanks.

If your car has had the cams welded, I think that was the only serious issue. Have you checked out www.v8sho.com? LOTS of good info there...

Never owned one but have driven a few. Fun car. The major issue was the cams. They need to be welded or all you have is a lawn ornamaent. Second, not as common, but several folks I personaly knew with them had coil issues.

V8sho.com and shoforum.com are two good websites for info. IIRC, with the exception of the motor, most of the parts can be sourced off of a Taurus or Sable. I was a Gen 2 guy, and no offense never considered the Gen 3 SHO, a real S H O.

Thanks!
Anthony

I had a Gen I (1990) SHO and loved it, but I always preferred the Gen II... and please don't forget -- it's S.H.O. and not SHOw... ;)

Derek, normally I'd say that's a good choice for a daily driver, but I saw how you lusted after those custom PT cruisers last Sunday at the Newton A&W show. They're understandably hard to find so might I suggest this? It was Elvis impersonator driven - that's provenance!!

Haha. Seriously, what were they doing there? I loved how people kept walking by and they would eyeball each person from their lawn chairs with that "why aren't people looking at my car" look...Did you see the one with gullwing doors and hydraulics?

Anyways, back to 3rd gen SHOs....

Pretty low Km`s for the year and the price is certainly right. I had a friend of mine that had one, but it had been driven pretty hard and showed.

I owned all the SHO generations. Sold the last one due to cam problem.

Do you really want to buy a car with a very limited produced complicated engine built by Yamaha that has "welded cams"?

It has been reported Ford and Yamaha had a contract dispute resulting in a parts availability issue.

I would buy one of the non V-8 SHOs.

Derek, how's the search for a DD going. In case the SHO is out, I thought you needed to see:

Actualy I like the Alien's PT cruiser in the pics! I wouldn't use it as a daily driver but it would be cool to show off @ shows.

Haha. I just don't get it. I should buy one and graffitti up "PT Loser" on it. Think I'd be invited to the shows?

I actually bought the SHO. It has 140,000 kms. Cams were welded, tranny done last year, fully loaded, all leather, sunroof, paint is good and still shines, front wheel drive V8 and its a DTR. Got him down to $2400. Done.

The Marauder will never see another winter. :)

Been to anymore car shows? Ian wants to do one in August. I'll let you know the details if you want to enter with us.

Cams and tranny were the issues that I ran into with mine, looks like you got one that shouldnt need anything done to. On occasions some people have a problem with the COP wiring on the rear bank melting to the valve cover due to a lack of air flow, something to think about wrapping if you ever remove the intake for whatever reason. Good luck and enjoy!

Congrats on the purchase. Car shows are aplenty this weekend. The Galaxie Club meet is at A&W in Coquitlam (just off Lougheed Hwy) on Sunday as is the Boulevard Casino show.
I really hope there are some tarted up PT cruisers at these shows!

Thanks. I did a bit of research on them before I bought it. Lots of info on V8SHO.com. Did you have your cams welded?
