Welp I'm done. Took my time about 2 hours. I recently bought a nice ceramic coated upper MM intake (thx Sean & Dave)-- It was in really great shape on the outside but the inside was dirty and rough, lots of casting marks & bungs plus it's a sand cast part so it has that rough finish all over it and lots of oil and carbon buildup. I got a round sanding head from my buddies machine shop put it in my drill chuck and went to work. The Aluminum is really soft and came off easily. My upper intake used to feel like sand paper but now is smooth as a baby's butt! Big difference. Idle is a lot smoother now. Probably helps too that I washed out 1/4 quart of oil and carbon out of it.
Heres some pics:

Light port and polish of the inside - totally smooth.

Look at the difference between old and new. Tons of oil and carbon on the inside of stock upper intake. Got a nice oil Musclemerc catchcan (see catchcan thread) so my nice polished new one won't get dirty.

Used one whole can of throttle body cleaner to get the top of the lower looking this clean. Took and shoved paper towels into each port. Then blasted away. IT WAS NASTY - don't have a before pic...

All done. I think it looks great and the idle is like just after you seafoam or change your oil - nice and smooth.

Also shown is my 60mm Accufab Tbody. Perfect fit with the now smooth finished intake. Used a small amount of Ultra Black RTV for a gasket. Car is noticeably smoother.

Dang, I thought I was the only one who had polished their upper intake by themselves. I think mine took longer and on top of that our 33 gal. craftsman air compressor kicked the bucket so I wasn't able to get it done like I wanted it to be. Doing my valve covers was a pain to say the least. Yours looks nice.

Is that ceramic coated or powder coated? It looks fantastic.
I also really like your Reinhart CAI (or it's it Pauls) I do want one of these!
Trade you my KN& CAI with 2 filters for it? :D

Its polished so it means I have to constantly keep on it or it will turn white.
My PHP CAI looks a little different with the custom engraved lid so I can't give it up. :D

Nice job Eric! The PHP intake box alone costs more than the whole K&N setup.

What would have been nice was to see before, and after dyno runs, but it does look nice.;)

Thanks Dennis. If you were closer we could see. Not a lot of SCT dealers around me with a dyno.
At some point I do want to purchase your CAI kit.
