I am really planning a turbo vic build with a built 5.4. Questions are:

Are the MAFS we use pull-through or push-through?

One big turbo or two small ones?

If twin can I use a compound/parallel setup?

Best mounting locations on a vic?

What transmission mods will I need?(I have a Jmod but know its is not near enough, I saw a kit on Reinhart for a supercharged trans, what does this kit contain?)

Thanks, I am on the hunt for a 5.4 block, cant decide between a new 550$ Frpp or Worked junkyard block.

What are your power goals for the finished engine? What is the goal for the car when it is finished? Street/Strip or strip only?

These will dictate whether or not you need to replace the tranny or not, singles or twins, etc.

When I switch to turbos, they will be twin 88's in the front grill with a horizontal radiator below them. Keep us all posted on your design/build!

I was thinking just around 400-500 hp, the car will be daily driver so nothing to crazy.

Why not go w/ a SC?

The heat from the Turbo will cook everything under the hood, the development and additional costs will out weigh any possible advantage at the HP level you are looking at.

I think you need to set out your goals and then examine how best to get there.

That's just hearsay... Unless you are speaking from experience (and I don't think you are).

I have owned factory turboed cars and everything under the hood that was not metal cooked, belts, hoses even the WS Washer tank.
A Turbo is a big heat sink.

Ouch. I guess you should post up which turbocharged vehicles you owned so others can avoid their poor designs. Save everyone a lot of trouble.

My grand national never cooked anything took a lot of beating and motor lasted 155k miles. That's running 15psi. Turbo is wins over s/c as long as you have time and lots of money.

The MAFS can be used either way, but will peg(run out of range to detect) and therefor it is better to get a MAF such as MAFia or SCT on a large pipe

One big turbo or two small ones?
One turbo will be cheap and easy, plus will make more peak power. If you want the wow factor as well as no lag, the twins are best

If twin can I use a compound/parallel setup?
You can do whatever you want...but compounding is stupid and best left to farm boys

Best mounting locations on a vic?
This is all about preference, but I have personally owned one STS car as well as friends who own STS cars, the remote turbo is pretty good option for this chassis with the ample room where the two mufflers are. If you have the money, the BEST place for a single or twin would be in the front bumper behind the foglights OR for a single in front of the accessories, use a slimline fan and a puller in front.

A tune will save you for a while. Really need the trans beefed up internally as you will be eating overdrives.

if the FRPP SOHC 5.4 block is 550.00, that would be best. A JY block will need more than 400.00 in machine work to be as good if not better than the FRPP

Hope I could help. I drove an STS 02 mustang GT before I got my 03 cobra...I drove it daily from late summer 07-early spring 08 and drove it in rain, snow, ect. Only thing I did to protect the filter was build a ported aluminum box around the filter.
