Lead East

Just got back from one of the largest hot-rod, pre-1972 car shows in the country. Estimates put today's show field at 2000 plus and I looked at almost everyone of them. 8 plus hours of walking around on pavement looking at some incredible cars and even a few trucks. My feet and back are telling me not to do much tomorrow.
I'll post a few pics Sun after the batteries for the camera and myself recharge.
Didn't see one Marauder(the 60's versions). Lots of Mercury's though.:)

Man I haven't been to Lead East in a few years.

Lead East is the world's biggest 50's party. It is a lot more than just the cars. They have a Sock Hop, live bands,and acapella groups. They have a Prom Night and choose a King and Queen of the Prom. They have contests for Best Greaser and Best Nerd open to all men women and children. They had brurnout contests, best sounding exhaust, and a Flamethrower contest. They often have celebrites. I met Big Daddy Don Garlits and his wife there. They were wonderful people.
I don't if they still do, but they used to broadcast music throughout the grounds played by a DJ called Wolfman Jerry who sounded like Wolfman Jack. They had the Ice Cream Man From Hell who had a Harley Davidson Trike with a freezer on the back.
They had Pinstripe races where they would have several hoods lined up and a course painted on the hoods and two guys per hood and they would paint a stripe around the course and the winner was determined by how fast he went and how straight his lines were.
The ladies who were in the contest for Queen of the Prom would be paraded around the grounds in convertibles and the ladies would sit up on the back of the rear seat.

I know the event has moved around a few times, but it was in or near Parsippany New Jersey. It is held every year on Labor Day weekend.

I gonna try to make it next year.

22500 Forget what this was but it was cool

Think it is a 1958 Mercury Turnpike Cruiser. Front end has been modified to angle the headlights. The "M" on the lower grill center above the license plate should have been a give-away on identification. MercMan has that "M" on his trunklid.

And that one is a 1949 Ford Custom V8 or possibly a 1949 Ford Victoria (the ID place on the side)
