Crown Vic LX vs "P71"
I’m currently in the process of getting a new car, which will serve as my daily driver, so the Marauder would become the "fun " car.
After alot of thinking, I decided the Crown Victoria suits me the best and since STAP will be closing in the not-so-distant future I’d like to order one before it’s too late.
Unfortunately the LX Sport is no longer available, if it was, I would of purchased one without hesitation. However since that is no longer an option, can you please let me know what the advantage of a LX over the P71 is? And vise-versa.
Here are the two Crown Vics:
1. 2011 Crown Victoria LX (P7E)
Dark Toreador Red w/Charcoal Cloth
$28,162 Base (invoice)
$300.00 Options (invoice)
Audio – Dual-media AM/FM stereo with single-CD/cassette player
Mirrors – Heated sideview
Rear-seat reading lights
$875 Freight
$29,337.00 Total delivered to dealer
2. 2011 Crown Victoria Police Interceptor (P7B)
Dark Pearl Blue w/Charcoal Cloth
$26,189 Base (invoice)
$1432 Options (invoice)
$875 Freight
$28,496.00 Total delivered to dealer

If you found a dealer who will sell you a P-71 I would opt for that, heavy duty everything!.

Best place for this question is crownvic.net
I'd go for the P71, which you could order as black with the SAP (street appearance package) so that you get things like power seats and cruise control. Get the HD rubber flooring and vinyl seats! The ride is stiffer which I think is a good thing.
Sutton Ford is the dealer that will sell brandy-new P71's to civilians. I think it's cool you are doing this. If i had plenty of extra means, I'd build my own new P71.

why not a used p71??? Ive seen 09's with 25kish on em selling for a lot less than 28k, more in the 15 range. I know its great to get new but that price differance is too much to pass up IMHO

P71 will have 3.55s out back, LX will have 2.73s (or 3.27s if also an HPP). Stock LXs are sl-o-o-o-o-o-w off the line but get great gas mileage for such a large car. I drove one for 6 days in CA earlier this year...

What were your impressions of the LX?
I couldn't find this in the order guide, but did the LX have power driver AND passenger front seat? Also, did it have that keypad on the door?

A new crown vic Lx has all the same options as the marauder minus the moon roof.

I don't believe that HPP on the LX is available anymore. As for the P71 (P7B), the list of things to get is lengthy. Get the package with the black grille.
BTW, the 5 inch ticket writer light can be deleted.

As for my impression, it was very quiet and smooth at all speeds, handled reasonably well for a large full-frame car with a solid rear axle, and got good gas mileage. Throttle response with a light foot was good, but when pushed, it felt like the pedal was disconnected or the motor had quit, mostly because of the tall rear gears. Remember, this was a rent-a-couch. There's a good reason why so many of us old farts buy them... :D

You can buy very low mileage (usually 10-15k) certified used 2010 Grand Marquis all day long in the Dallas area for around 19k. Just check Craiglist.

Does that mean it is a ballistic reinforcement shield or does it help with the rigidity if the body in high speed cornering?

IIRC there are 2 roof reinforcement brackets installed in CVPI, which are not there in the MM. I had to remove both of mine to get the headliner to fit.

I would imagine that its for light bar support, make the roof more rigid to take the weight, but im just guessing there

i have had five panthers in the last 12 years. two were bought new. three used. If I had to get one at this very time I'd go used. I understand wanting new but the 50-60% drop in value in first two years is just a killer.
i bought a 2005 Sport in 2008 for $14k with 25K miles and it is my current daily driver. I am pushing 80k miles and its just fine as is. If I had to sell it today I think it's worth $7-8k.
just sayin...why not save a few bucks and get a lightly used car and roll a little of the savings into making your next panther yours.

What is the advantage of the lamp delete? Is that the dome light or seperate?

The resale value doesn't bother me as I plan on keeping it as long as I can. One reason I would prefer to buy New is that I cannot find any used ones under 5k miles with the options or colours I'd like. Plus I'm not interested in a used patrol car that was likely abused.
