I got a call from an old friend this afternoon asking if I'd like to buy his M1 Garand since he no longer shoots it. I could barely contain myself because I've wanted one of these for a very long time, but have never had the money in the past.

Anyway, he brought it out to the house this afternoon and I gave it a good look over before I made any moves. I figured he would be asking around $850 for it, but he offered me $500 plus 120rds of ammo, a ton of en bloc clips, a national match sling, and two ammo cans.

It was my second best deal on a gun ever!

The obligatory pics:

I've never fired the M1 Carbine, but have the Garand.

Very enjoyable rifle to say the least.

Looks good and a sweet deal!

Mike.

Great rifle and a good deal! They generally run between $650 and up in my area...depending on condition. I'd love to see what they do to a coyote. ;)

Who made the carbine?

The carbine is an Inland with a Saginaw Steering Gear trigger group. Manufacture for both rifles was in 1944.

If you're ever in south eastern Minnesota, I've got 980 coyote infested acres that need to be cleaned out. All my neighbors are on board with coyote hunters too. In total, there's probably 2,000+ acres that can be hunted.

I know my Model 700 22-250 will hit 'em but I just haven't been able to call 'em in yet.

Mine is a Universal too. I'd like to find another one at a good deal to put my paratrooper collapsible stock on.

That's what it was designed for, close quarters. The biggest problem with the m1 carbine is limited selection of ammo. Most common is the ball ammo, but I recently found a supplier for JHP.

Great deal on a wartime Garand.

The carbine looks modified. The original WWII version had the flip up rear sight and no bayonet mount.

They very early ones had the flip sight, but they were almost all replaced with a machined a ramp-style rear sight by the end of WWII or the start of Korea because soldiers complained of accuracy problems and difficulty of adjustment. Even later models received a stamped rear sight, similar in function to the machined version. Lots of collectors will replace this later style sight with a flip-up though to give it a look of earlier production.

That's the first I've ever heard of the bayonet being added late, but mine was made in '44 and issued in Korea based on the various markings/cartouches. At some point in time it was also in Italy, but that was likely just as a lease. Of course the rifle is something of a Frankenstein as are the vast majority of M1 Carbines on the market.

I still haven't received it, but that is great that it's fully intact! They are really an unusual find!

My dad has a M1 carbine he bought for $15 when he got out of the Navy in '53. Great shape. One day I'll grab it from him. He still goes and fires it from time to time. Nice pick-up on your end.

Nope, I'm just a gun nerd. I hold my degree in Writing and History.

You bought that M-1 Garand cheaper than what I sold my M-1 Garand scope for last year. Good job, nice rifle!
