View Full Version : Clean around lug nuts...

OK...I'm sure everyone here has been doing this for years, but I just thought of it so I'm passing the idea along... I got tired of wraping a rag around a screwdriver and running it around in the space between the lug nut and the wheel. They actually sell tools for this...most of which don't look like they will work...and they are pricey.
This little 1" wide foam paint brush works perfectly (and they are cheap).
Also reaches between after market (larger) calipers and the wheel...:D

I use the rag method once a week and once I month I take the wheels off and clean them front and back sides.

About a year, washing the car & wheels at least 3 or 4 times a month. Get one at Wally World or a FLAPS. Comes with extra foam piece. Rotate it twice around the nuts and your clean.

Ummm...

You may want to specify lug nuts as some people here may try it elsewhere.

Like CBT for example.

Just saying...

Beat me to it!!
I may try this foam brush trick. I will assume, since it's foam, you could also use one to absorb the water that gets around the nuts after washing, and eliminate water spots?

Oh really? That's cool, cause I hate to think my nuts just stay wet after I wash them. Air dry at high rpm's for the win!

Yep, just hang them out the window at highway speeds.

I just been using a paint brush and wrap electrical tape around the metal part so It doesn't scratch the wheels. I use the paint brush on the whole wheel gets all the nooks and cranies real good.

I'm all for having a nice clean car, but this whole business of shoving a brush in your nuts just seems like overdoing it...my neighbours stare at me enough as it is.

The important thing is, we all learned something: Bob's neighbors stare at him.

Put on your favorite tie. Jack rear of vehicle off the ground, Lay under the vehicle, Wrap the favorite tie around front of drive shaft in direction of spin at the transmission end, have ex wife start vehicle and place shifter in D. When the tie reaches the end of the drive shaft it is clean and you have no more worries. :coolman:

Will a drive shaft loop prevent this cleaning option from being effective?
