Right now I am doing my best to help out my parents get a new car. Looks like the budget is going to be around 18K. It seems like you can get a 2009 and sometimes a 2010 GM for around 18K or you can go back to 2006 and get a Town Car. I hate to face life, but my parents are getting older and aren't in the best health. It seems like a car that is the height of the Town Car and the ride quality would be best for them, but I might be a bit bias.

The question is if the GM has the same quality ride as the Town Car. Also for 18K what would you buy? 09 GM or 06 Town Car? The time to buy will be early next year, so a 2010 GM could probably be bought. My parents are big luxury car fans, but I keep having to tell them to settle for a few years until things are better. I know I have. I haven't used public transportation this much sense I got caught with a suspended drivers license.

Thoughts?

Thank you.

Probably better visibility for the driver in the GM but a Lincoln is a Lincoln. The leather seats are nice and smooth like in our MMs. The seats in my 09 GM are a much poorer grade of leather.

^^^+1 on visibility....my mom has a TC and the visibility is not good. However for $18K, a low mileage Signature Limited could be had.

Go with the Grand M, more cheaper parts.
Or the Liincoln since Mercury is done.
I say let them decide.

I would vote for the 09 Grand Marquis, newer, most reliable.

I just drove the 2010 GM Ultimate Edition, nice car. Good ride and a little more connected feeling than the 07 TC I drove recently. I prefer a little more road feel over road isolation.
TC is kinda like a marshmallow.

I deal with older folks in my work and I would suggest the GM as it's slightly smaller . The larger the vehicle the more prone to corner damage and side swipes.
As a GM owner I always referred to it as a mini-Lincoln. Great ride and comfort. Less expensive maint.

i would go with grand marquis also ,less electrical gurus to go wrong and cheaper to own and more reliable. I wonder if they have a model with floor shifter ,but i dont think they have that option (lse) model any longer ?

I like the Town Car a lot.

You can purchase a brand new Grand Marquis for $22,995.
If I would be purchasing used, a 2007 Lincoln Town Car Designer would be my only choice.

BTW, there is a dealer in Maryland selling brand new Town cars for $29,995.

Grand Marquis. It's not as gaudy and pretentious as the TC and doesn't feel as bulky either- it's the best of both worlds.

Mixed reviews, but hearing the GM is more dependable is a plus. Thanks!

Have owned 1 Mercury Grand Marquis, 3 Lincolns…Mark VI, and 2 Town Cars over the years.

Currently have an older TC with about 255K miles that just will not die so will keep it as a spare back-up until it does.

All the GM and TC were very reliable with proper maintenance. Although the earlier Lincolns suffered from weak electric OD Transmission/Torque Converters issues. The fix? Simple, installed auxiliary
On all of the above vehicles were modified by installing super heavy duty anti-sway bars, HD double action, nitrogen gas filled shocks and 1 size larger performance tires.

Rather spend a little more for the feature rich TC than the GM, oh BTW one can have warranty/non warranty repair service performed for any CV, GM or TC by any Ford dealer at the lower shop rates and parts as opposed to a Lincoln dealer ship.

For me, traveling highways and mountains roads they were/are the best compromise for a safe, reliable, cost effective, handling luxury American vehicle.

But that’s just me

I think the GM will give you better gas mileage.

I'm biased but I'd go with the Grand Marquis... I currently own a '07GS(basic, basic with cloth seats) and a frilled up '98LS with only 37K mi... I also just spent a week motoring around Las Vegas in a 2011LS... Interestingly it rode somewhat softer than my '07, apparently they cut the spring/shock rates sometime in the last four years...

I say Lincoln Town Car. I rented a 2010 Towncar recently and it was super nice. Roomy and very comfortable seats and ride.

Give 'em back your Marauder and get yourself something that won't always get you in trouble...if that's possible.:P

Hummm, tough call here but I'd say go with an extended wheelbase lincoln. And make sure which ever car you have has standard lumbar support.

I'd go with the Grand Marquis. Find a Certified Pre-Owned one and get the premium care 6yr/100k mile warranty with it.

Which one do you want? When your parents are done with it you can pick-up their new old car cheap.

A ultimate edition GM is almost as well loaded as a Town Car. But the leg room in the backseat of the Town Car is hard to beat.
