Could someone please explain to me the difference between the Aviator and the Cobra engine. I saw that some one said the MMs had an Aviator. I am trying to learn all that I can about this car. I just want to make sure I have my facts straight.

It all depends on what year Cobra motor you are talking about.

'03 and '04 Cobra engines are cast iron blocks vs. aluminum blocks in the MM and the Aviator.

our motors are closest to an auto mach1 or aviator. either way, most any thing will work between any 4v or 2v, thats why they are called MODULAR motors

ok so the blocks are the biggest difference.

There are other differences as well, nothing major, but you can't do a direct bolt-in from an Aviator or a Mach 1 (or Cobra) into a MM (e.g. intake systems, front skirt, etc.)

the entire lower end is different, everything is forged (03-4) iron block, lower CR, 8 bolt crank

+1 closest direct swap. The 4.6 block itself can be used in anything, outside of being aluminum or cast iron they're the same. It's the internals (pistons) that make them 2v, 4v and even 3v. You can take a 4.6L (RWD) and swap it over the only differences between most later models would be timing cover may need to have hole drilled in it and one filled for a bolt based on the engine original application and motor mount brackets based on aluminum or iron.

I heard the Aviator is cammed differently. More inline with truck expectations.

So are you, what's your point :D
Since I'm the one who called it an Aviator engine I figure I should chime in. There were a number of versions of the 32v 4.6 out of all of them the only ones with an advertised rating of 302 HP were the Aviator and Marauder. That is 3hp less than the Cobra and Mach 1 engines. In turn the Aviator and Marauder gained a couple of points in the TQ dept, I don't remember exactly how much. So yes the Aviator engine was "re-cammed" to make it "more suitable for a truck" and we got it too. Cause just like the Aviator our Marauders are heavier than a Mustang.

who told you that? pretty sure people who have actually seen the part numbers on the cams stated that they are the same as the cobra/mach 1. The difference between the auto mach 1 and the marauder is most likely in the tune.
Oh PS. Mach 1 rated at 305/320, and the Marauder is 302/318. Marauder doesn't make more tq than the mach 1.

Cobra, Mach1, Aviator, Marauder cams are the same.
Marauder and Mach1 Automatic are almost identical, main difference is the upper intake.
Aviator has a different timing cover and intake, same block, heads, internals.
Mach1 Manual is also close, the differences are the crank and upper intake.
Cobra is a lot different: pistons, rods, crank, CR, block, timing cover, intake.
