For those of you that don't know Google Books has scanned every issue going back to the start of Popular Mechanics and Popular Science. There are tons of great period car reviews and the Detroit Report tells of all the fancy new auto tech coming "next year".
One I thought the rest of you MM owners is this owners review of the Mercury Cougar from the July 70 issue. http://books.google.com/books?id=mtgDAAAAMBAJ&pg=PA22&dq=72+cars+why+you+should+buy+ now&hl=en&ei=c9yqTOPUIpSqsAOa9LH1Aw&sa=X&oi=book_result&ct=result&resnum=8&ved=0CFAQ6AEwBw#v=onepage&q=good%20goer%20great%20looker %20average%20workmanship&f=false
I particularly got a kick out of the first new paragraph on page 108.
