The picture of Des Monies, looking at the state house, from down town is taken from a place, almost in front of the Lincoln, Mercury dealer, I worked at in the early '80s.

This brought a tear to my eye...My home town, Sioux Falls, SD and I was 14 when it was taken. This photo is looking south on Phillips Ave. which, at at that time, was one way northbound and the street to the west was Main Ave. was southbound one way. This was our "loop" which I started driving in '59 when I got my first car, a '50 Pontiac Silver Streak 8. Sigh.

Be cool to pluck one of those cars out of that pic.

What I find interesting in that photo is that there are a bunch of Pontiacs, Buicks, DeSotos, Chryslers, and a Mercury. I guess the Ford and Chevy people were all at work. ;) There's a Ford back next to the bus. A Chevy in the foreground right. Might be a Chevy behind the '58 Ford. But most of the cars on that street would have been considered "upscale" in my neighborhood.

Loved the pics! I can't believe the resolution quality in most of them, and the cars!.... no stinking Camry's and Altima's.

The car just behind the '58 Ford on the left of the bus is a '55 Ford and the one behind the Pontiac in the left foreground is a '54 Ford... The black car to the left of the Pontiac could be a De Soto but I believe it's a '51 Dodge(see link)...
