I bought 2 MMC driveshafts today for a project car I am working on, and in the process ran across a parts man that was able to locate a current list of available MMC driveshafts from dealers in the US. This list is probably old news for a lot of you, but really opened my eyes as to what the dealers can really help with, if they will. As of today, I counted an even 40 (38 after my purchase) MMC shafts across the country. I still have the printout if anyone else is still looking..

I actually ended up finding them here locally at a wrecking yard. They tow for the city police department and auction the wrecked city vehicles every year. I bought both shafts off of totaled PI Cruisers for $75.

The Ford Dealer here didn't have a MMC and the closest "new" shaft was 300 miles away, so I went with the "used"ones.. I will probably buy one of the cruisers for parts when they are auctioned. The car I am working on is a 01 PI, so even if drivetrain parts won't work out, there should be enough body parts to make it worth while.

You beat me by 2 hours!!! I was gonna start this very thread. Yours had alot more to offer though.

I bought a brand new Metal Matrix today for under 2 hundred.

A ford parts friend gave me some contacts in hopes of finding the Metal Matrix Comp PI drive shaft part number XW7Z-4602-AA. I called four different places, and surprisingly all four had ONE left respectively. I bought one, and caught a real break at the price of $180.83.

The other three places weren’t as cool with their price, although maybe I didn’t throw around the right verbiage to achieve a better discount. For those of you still looking for an alternative to spending 5 large for a metal matrix here’s the dope:

Forgot Co. Name, New Jersey, attn. Kent 973-746-1334 $198.05:up:
Sunbury Motors, Pa., Attn. Ron, 570-286-7746 $271.24:rolleyes:
McCafferty, Pa., Attn. (don't ask for dave!) 215-945-8000 $301.38

I did have them verify markings (MMC-POLICE), but I would suggest asking again, and perhaps asking their best price as your brother is a ford sales manager in Walawala, Wa.!! :D

Hope this helps at least two people :D

My understanding is the $180.00 price is dealer cost. I was told that the MMC (XW7Z 4602 AA) is now on Ford's obsolete parts list, and a lot of dealers, not knowing the demand, would sell them for their cost.
Shelby also has a quanity warehoused (unknown how many) but it is doubtful these would ever make to our group.

Barry, thanks for the P/N. I got mine today. I had my dealer put it on the national locater and there are still quite a few left out there.
Dealer cost is $180.83 and dealer list is $301.38. If you can get it for less that 301.38, your doin well.

I wonder how this one compares to the Dynotech MMC driveshafts available from Dennis? Are they both the same metal matrix composite mix or same yoke material?
