Our house is on an old large corner lot (circa 1940's) and a few days ago we had a sinkhole develop at the tee-corner right by our house! I shot some pics, but only after they let me in to see it. They had already pumped it full of aggregate at this point, and it's awaiting it's final pave job. The irony of this is that the wife and I just watched a show on the Discovery Channel about the crumbling infrastructure of America. Some pics are from my front window, some of what was the hole, and one from the hole looking at my house. YIKES.

Closest is 75 miles away in Bedford. Where the stone for our house came from. :D It was a cracked pipe under the street. Washed out the earth and there ya have it.

That's good news...
The quarry near Frederick, Md. has pumpd out so much groundwater that they've collapsed Interstate 70...twice with sinkholes!!
I'm glad that I don't live near that place.

They'll learn when a school bus full of kids on it's way to Gettysburg drops into it. Hope they never happens though!

Your problems aren't over. That's a crappy fill and patch job. They will just cap that hole with 2" lift of asphalt. Within 2-3 months the hole will start to show signs of cracking and subsidence. Can't get any decent help these days.
