DB Electrical - NEW Mercury Marauder 4.6L Alternator 03 04 3W3U-AA 8314 AFD0147 (http://www.dbelectrical.com/p-4368-new-mercury-marauder-46l-alternator-03-04-3w3u-aa-8314-afd0147.aspx)

My alternator is on it's way out.I'am looking for one closest to OEM I was thinking of the DB alt for $129.00. 12v 130Amp. On their table output current read starts at 1600 rpm 68 amps
Output current 1800 rpm 82 amps
2000 rpm 94 amps
3000 rpm 125 amps
4000 rpm141 amps
5000 rpm 150 amps
6000 rpm 155 amps
0 rpm 0 amps

My question is does our oem alternator not produce amps below 1800 rpms ? I think this will work but shouldn't the alt. charge the battery at Idel speed say 900 rpm ?

Are the rotational speeds listed alternator speeds or crankshaft speeds?

What on earth makes you think its on the way out?

It works or it doesnt.

This is why I think the alt is on it's way out. It started a few days ago. The serpentine belt was making a screaching noise around 900-1500 rpms. It would come & go. It sounded as if a pulley was siezing up & made the belt slip. At the same time the volt meter in the car would drop to 10 volts. When the screaching stopped the volt meter would return to 12.5 volts. When I got home I removed the belt spun all the pulleys & they spun free. Because of these conditions I thought the voltage regulator or clutch in the alt was going bad. These were my thoughts as to why I think the alt is on its way out.
