We out produced making 50% of all weapons produced during WWII. When Hitler heard we were building Liberty Ships in 4 days he supposedly said the war cannot be won.

No one talks about the vast untapped resources we have in the USA. We have a 300 year supply of oil in the USA based on current consumption. We also have vast Coal and NG.

From the DOE "The vast extent of U.S. oil shale resources, amounting to more than 2 trillion barrels, has been known for a century."
Per the DOE we use 19.5 million barrels a day.

I like NG and so long as they are not exempted from the ground water laws we should encourage it. We have a very long supply of NG, the only green fuel that generates taxes for the Treasury.

Instead of using our own resources in an environmentally friendly way, an yes it can be done, which puts tax money in the Treasury we give money to people who are trying to kill us and who don't care about the environment. It does not make any sense.

With in 5 years we could stop buying oil from the Middle East and completely switch the tables on them, giving us economic control over them. To the Pres Obama's Admins credit they were starting the process, friends of mine were doing the studies, of opening up other offshore areas of the USA to drilling until the BP and then they did an about face for political reasons.

It is now fact that BP knowingly over and over did things that increased the risk of a blow out. They kept relying on the blow out preventor which is like relying on the fire extinguisher. You are not suppose to have the fire, the blow out preventor is the last line of defense. When you drill 28,000 wells and have 4 blow outs you think it will never happen.

When Hitler heard we were building Liberty Ships in 4 days he supposedly said the war cannot be won.
4 days may have been an exaggeration .... but 18 shipyards were knocking them out at a record pace. Some facts below: Liberty Ships were being launched at an average rate of about 2 per day.

By the fall of 1942, the production rate of the Liberty Ships had far exceeded the expectations of the Maritime Commission with an average construction period of 70 days (in 1942). In September, Henry Kaiser’s Portland, Oregon yard set a record by completing the JOSEPH N. TEAL in a mere 10 days (from laying of the keel). The Liberty ship ROBERT E. PEARY was built in a West Coast shipyard in the world's record time of one week flat. By 1944, the average time to build a ship was 42 days.

In all, 2,751 Liberties were built between 1941 and 1945, making them the largest class of ships built worldwide.

I'm not sure if the actual WWII Jeep is designed like that or if that particular one is rigged for some kind of competition but the video is still pretty cool.

It wasn't ... the one in the video is specially designed for quick assembly ahd disassembly.

You can Find it in several sources;
"Liberty Ship SS Robert E. Peary built in 4 days, 15 hours, 29 minutes

Liberty Ships, the "Ugly Duckling" workhorses of World War II, were built in 13 states by 15 companies in 18 shipyards. The first of 2,710 Liberty ships, the SS Patrick Henry, was launched in September 1941, after 150 days of construction. (The shipyard was built at the same time as the ship.)"

"The shortest time of the many different but steadily-maintained averages of Liberty deliveries from all yards was about 17 days, but some previous special efforts had sometimes cut this time to much less. At the Oregon Shipyard one vessel was launched only ten days after keel laying, and Richmond No. 2 responded with an effort that established a Liberty building record, assembling a ship in just over four days and outfitting her in another three. This was yard No. 440, the Robert E. Peary, on slip between 8 and 12 November 1942. This pace was not, of course, maintained and no effort was made so to do, but the speed of this construction did focus attention on shipyard achievements and methods and gave quite a boost to morale."

Apparently we are both correct depending on when you stop the clock. 4 days for the hull and another 3 days to outfit the ship. Still an impressive record..... but a hull without guts ain't much good.

Yessir, it was. I have no proof that they were deported, though that word came up in the conversation here. The only facts I have are that they were taken out in cuffs. They have since hired American Citizens to fill the jobs left in the wake of that situation. My belief is that AT&T did not care how those subcontractors handled their employment policies, because AT&T had no legal responsibilities regarding their subcontractors. Just as someone building a house has no responsibility to the employment practices of the masonry crew that is subbed out.

I would like to go there. Not the cellar, but to England. I've been to a lot of places, but never made it there.

If you ever do, my favourite ale was Old Speckled Hen which, btw, has nothing to do with chickens but was the name of a sports car, a Triumph, methinks.

The story of "Old Speckled Hen"

"Old Speckled Hen" was first brewed to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the MG car factory in Abingdon, Oxfordshire. Named after an old MG car which was used as the factory run around, they would park the old MG Featherweight Fabric Saloon outside the paint shop where it would normally get spattered in paint and so it became known as the ‘Owld Speckl’d Un’. This turned into "Old Speckled Hen" when the beer was unveiled.

Since then the finely balanced beer with a distinctive rich malty taste and fruity aroma has attracted many fans, including the fox, who is always on the hunt for his Hen.

I think it's more like "We had more practice in WW2 stopping the Nazis from conquering England since we joined the war effort nearly two years before your country did."

If we didn't join the fight all of Europe & England would be speaking German.

AMEN BROTHER!!! And even that isn't entirely true, a big part of why England never fell is because the Germans switched to bombing cities instead of manufacturing facilities. The British where still able to churn out planes and tanks!! :flag::flag::flag:

Never been to England either. Been to Ireland, now, you want to talk about beautiful women and beer... Smithwicks and a tall green eyed red head ... nothing else to add.

I have to say, I always liked the story of how the Yanks helped the war effort before actually entering the war. The US would build war planes. They would wheel them out for "storage" next to the Canada US border. At night, Canadians would "steal" the planes and ship them to theatre in Europe. Might have been one of the biggest "insurance jobs" in history! Sure helped the war effort, though.
Now, if we'd only had a government with balls who hadn't cancelled the Avro project...

I love this beer too. Not just for the taste but the name lol. My last name is "DUNKLE". I know, spelled different but Dunkel is the original german spelling before it was changed upon migration to America. I know Dunkel just means dark in german so its fairly common for German beers to be dunkels or dunkelwiezens. I like alot of them but warsteiner is one of my faves, but Newcastle will always be my No. 1

Amen to that!

Let's not forget about the airplane "shuttle" service the Canucks had to bring airpower to Britain. Talk about a long haul run!

Well, I guess the best thing is we got it done, we are on the same side now, including the our friends the Germans and Japanese. God help the foolish bastards that ever want to take ALL of us on conventionally. Probably why it has never, and will never happen. I remember thinking when that little pot bellied, dog eating, despot in N. Korea started throwing missiles over Japan a couple years ago. Yep, he REALLY is f*&^)ing nuts to piss those people off! They will run over his country like a speed bump...
