Never been before. Any suggestions (first or second hand experience) for nice hotels on the beach? South side or North side better? My sister and I will do a little touring of the Island but mostly spend the time at the beach. Early December...

Anything "not to miss"? I've sent Stryker a PM too.

I will ask my girlfriend for you and see what she says. She is Puerto Rican and has been there once. She was younger and was visiting family, but I will see if she knows of anything to go see and will get back to you.

I would say head over to Roosevelt Roads Naval Station and party like a rock star with the sailors, but it closed about 6 years ago. Beaches were great, don't know about now tho.

Watch out for the "spiraling crime and rampant drug smuggling".

I've visited a few years back but only Old/New San Juan & the surrounding area. If you visit Old San Juan stay away from "La Perla".

I hear the North West coast is prettier that the east. Also Vieques has the Bioluminescent Bays which are supposed to be really cool and they have a W Hotel & Spa there. Also, the El Conquistador Resort right outside of San Juan (Farjardo) is beautiful.

If you want to check out places/suggestions of where to eat, the Food Network (Guy Fieri, Rachel Ray) and the travel channel are good resources.

It's all in how you make those weekends s t r e t c h!

Four weeks vacation, 8 flex days, 3 floats and 7 holidays that you must use each year. It sucks! :D

It's very beautiful and the weather is great. Traffic around San Juan is terrible for about 4 hours a day and the drivers are crazy. The beaches where we stayed were awesome. I am not a party guy so we went to the natural sites, El Yunque, Aricibo (big telescope), and a drive along the top of the mountains that run the center of the island, the big cave (don't remember it's name),the old San Juan fort and the bio bay area on the north east coast. We stayed outside of San Juan about 30-45 min east and loved the place. Be safe, fairly high crime rate.

Take a cruise. The one day in San Juan's port will be enough.

Fly in, one full day in San Juan, see San Juan Antigua, Forteleza. Then head for northeast corner of the Island, El Conquistador resort, Golf, pool, beach, boat ride,. Take a side trip to the phosphorescent Bay and to the Rain forest. One week is enough.
