Post a video or two of the best live performances/performers you can find.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iCQ4QLFl01g

The Cramps. I've never seen any singer deepthroat a microphone like that before. Nor has any band ever taken Rock n' Roll music to such an extreme... my favorite band of all time. The Elvis Presley impression in the middle is so strange, but I love it. Wish I got to see these guys... meanwhile back in 2010.

James Brown. The hardest working man in show business. He would actually fine the musicians in his live act five dollars for every mistake. You miss a fill on the drums five dollars, miss a move for a dance five dollars... he would take his hand out and hold all five fingers at the person. So it would look like a dance, but he would he punishing the band. Gotta love it!

Otis Redding. Wow what a simile and performance.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BHXutgxpjgU

The Hives. The only band still together that has music and a performance that interest me. I guess it because they remind me so much of The Kinks and Sex Pistols in a blender.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FDVv7HO_RR4

Jerry Lee Lewis. I wish I could find clips of him setting the piano on fire while playing it. To me he's the only white guy that can pull off playing Rock N' Roll the way it's supposed to sound. I love how he rocked this cover.

What are you fond of?

Any and all music insert here. A video would be nice.

Chuck Norris had a band. Once. He played all the instruments and played the perfect song, then the earth was created...

Post a video or two of the best live performances that you have actually been a witness to, instead of watching it on a a screen.

I thought I was going to hear a cover... Last Kiss, but that was great. Wow I might wanna see them in concert now. They are still to this day the only band that can be considered superheros because they had or still have a comic book series.

Brad, where did they get the idea for the face paint? Not too many know this, but I am sure you do. Probably Adam/Cleveland, see if you can get it first.

During the time that Kiss broke onto the scene (They were formerly Wicked Lester) they experimented with make up as many bands did (David Bowie comes to mind). But the make up seemed to feminine for them so they decided to go to the extreme. As they were all attention whores, this seemed the best way to draw attention

^yup, that was my understanding of the makeup. I've played "as" KISS onstage. It was a lot of fun, but I sweated and poured beer all over myself. At the end of the night, I looked like a hot mess.

I'll only mention bands I've actually seen in person for my real response to this topic.

The Hives. The only band still together that has music and a performance that interest me. I find that hard to believe. The Hives used to be great, but that all ended after the Veni Vidi Vicious album in my opinion. Their first album, the one with the Raunch Hands cover ("Black Jack") was their best! I once saw them in Cleveland, with Mooney Suzuki and New Bomb Turks opening. They were good, energetic, but they didn't sound great in a live setting. Soundwise, I'd say the Mooney Suzuki had the best sound, then the Turks, then the Hives.

Speaking of the New Bomb Turks (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h7uwk_f8ywo), I get the impression you don't much care for them, but for my money they're the best live band I've ever seen. It's rare to find a 4-piece club band playing on club PA systems that consistently sounds that awesome. Just a damn wall of sound. Eric Davidson's a hilarious frontman. And they're all over 40 years old. Find me a band that can be that energetic with all the members over 40. It won't happen. Plus, one of the only bands I'll still get up front and risk personal injury over.

The Amazing Royal Crowns (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UeBxW-oLUok), who've been broken up for awhile, were the nicest buncha guys I ever shared a stage with. One of my early bands opened for them. They loved us, and hung out with us after the show.

Another band that broke up in the last 5 years but was great is The Cherry Valence (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v6llalVn6so). Saw 'em a couple times and they were just KILLER. Cheetie Kumar, a foxy lady guitarist, two drummers who both happen to be the lead singers of the band, yowza! That video I posted isn't great or even one of their best songs, but this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HEqp9Fs1LrU) is.

Turbonegro (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bQ2gQ6KVg94) and Valient Thorr (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZHPjR3VEbz4) were a great double bill I once saw. Both bands were excellent.

I once saw Valient Thorr with the Riverboat Gamblers (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MVFFimTtL50). It was also a great show, but not the best. The best RG show I saw was before they signed to the Volcom label, when they were still fun and reckless (see video).

Alice Cooper (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MC0qcbhxNm4) still kicks ass.

And though I've never seen them, I want to go back to your "only band around today..." blah blah blah and reiterate, because I feel like you're seriously writing THIS BAND (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BpesvBb_acY&feature=related) off. You'll have to click it to see who it is.

I'm stopping now, because I could go on about at least 20 more bands that blew my mind when I saw 'em. I could go on about the bands I've been in that have put on some killer live performances, I could go on about jamming with one of the guys from the Dead Milkmen, partying with Kepi from the Groovie Ghoulies, on and on and on. I think most of you guys gave up reading after the first sentence. :D

I forgot about Jim Jones. :o Wow that was awesome! Rock N' Roll Will NEVER Die. :)

I enjoyed The New Bomb Turks, but is wasn't the typical Punk Rock that I worship. Ramones, Cramps, Black Flag, Johnny Thunders... exc. I did enjoy the performance though.

Kiss got their makeup from Ace. He did it himself when he dressed up to see The New York Dolls at a party. So it was from Ace, but it was because of the Dolls.

As far as the best performance I gave seen. It was probably Green Day in 2001, but they've changed so much I don't like saying I am a fan anymore. I'm all for the 90s material. Anything after nimrod. just doesn't excite me.

Sorry, some serious memory losses from the late 60s and early 70s. Went to a lot of concerts though back when they were cheap and you didn't have to get tickets 3 months in advance. Just show up at the door, maybe a little tradin' to get in. Bar bands, the Unholy Beasts with a one armed drummer in New Baltimore. More tequila please!

I'll second the Amazing Royal Crowns, they were a great local band.

For sheer lunacy, i'd have to say that the Reverend Horton Heat was tough to beat.

Also early 90s Clutch, and when Scissorfight was having a good night, they put on a great show as well.

Black Crowes. HORDE festival. Sommerset Wisconsin back in about 1995. Blues Traveler, Sheryl Crow and a bunch of other bands were there. About all I can remember was some dude holding a 3' long lizard above his head during the entire Black Crowes set (I assume so the lizard could get a good view) and the little yellow dress that Sheryl Crow was wearing. Seen the Crowes a bunch of times and they're always great.

Ted Nugent/Alice Cooper in LaCrosse Wisconsin in about 1998. If you're a fan of hooters, go see Ted. ;) Heck, if you've got a pulse, go see Ted.

Kiss Destroyer/re-union tour. 1990's sometime. Milwaukee, Madison, and St Paul. Everyone in the car got abducted by space aliens on the way back from the Milwaukee show.

Metalica/Slayer. And justice for all tour. LaCrosse Wisconsin. 1988. James Hetfeild insulted our Wisconsin beer several times. The genius did this in front of 8,000 people just 5 blocks away from the worlds largest 6 pack. There were 93 arrests. Couldn't hear anything for a week.

Honorable mention goes to The Monsters of Rock tour I apparently went to while in Germany (1991). I heard it was great. I think Van Halen was there.

Funny you should mention that. I drove him from Indy to Chicago a few months ago. I guess they had a show the next day in your area, but needed to get back to Chicago right after the show to make Mancow in the morning. He's a great guy and gave me some great advice that I followed for my band. We talked about music all the way back to Chicago including a story when to told me Bo Diddley cooked BBQ for him and everyone at a gig 30 years ago. He couldn't believe what I was into. I'll be seeing him in a few weeks and maybe jamming. If you want next time we meet I can give him a call and you can say hello.

Wonderful guy.
