My letter on the demise of Mercury won letter of the month for December.

Sorry that I overlooked the Marauders in my email; my oversight, but there were a lot of great Mercs that I didn't mention.

Received two very nice orbital buffers from Griot's Garage (with supplies).

First time I've ever sent a letter to a magazine.

Think I'll quit while I'm ahead.

Motor Trend December Letter of the Month
MT tells me I won with the following letter:

Sad Goodbye

As a little kid in the early 50's, I got my first "car crush" riding in a 1949 Mercury convertible. I became an instant car lover. Now, six decades later, reading about cars and attending old car shows is still a joyous past time.

I watched The Ed Sullivan TV show mainly for the "Big M" commercials. I walked around in awe when I first saw a 1957 Mercury parked on the street. One of my all time favorite personal cars was a 1968 Merc Cyclone GT fastback.

The Montclairs, Turnpike Cruisers, XR7's, Cyclone Spoilers, Sun Valleys, 49/50/51 lead sleds, the "rolled and pleated" look of the mid 50's interiors, the Cruiser fender skirts, the Cale Yarborough days, etc, etc are now all past history.

Reading the new car previews and finding Mercury MIA is sad.

Yes, the nameplate lost it's glitter over the years, but when it was good, it was very, very good.

Thanks for a good run.
