I can make a faster, cheaper BBC than I can a BBF.
But if I did a BBF and twins, would that still be a Marauder?

YES! Go for it Marty!!!
BBF that is!
If I had any modding money, Jon Kaase would already have a check from me for a 521 BOSS making only 770 HP....N/A
and those gorgeous BOSS valve covers happen to be narrower than our 4.6 modular V8s...heh heh heh...:D
Oh so sweet!...and he is in 'your neck of the woods'!

BBF. NO problem. When I see a car of any year, make, model with a different companies engine, I shake my head in disgust and walk away. Trannies, rear ends, thats fine, but NOT the engine, that is just wrong.
You see this commonly in the 20's thru 40's Fords, never could understand why? Again, LAME.

i say keep the mod motor, even tho it could not be taken to the level and relabilty of a BBC or BBF,thats what makes your car unique marty.
i bet lots of the Chevy boys are not runnng LT1's.
A BBF or be the first 5.4 mod motor. It is a race car Marty! Sorry for being partial to the Blue Oval! I would suggest an FE but you know what that stands for. 460 based would be the way to go.

Cheaper building a BBC?....sure!
But how much $$$ did you put your mod motor vs. a built, bulletproof BBF?
Faster using a BBC?.....NOT!
....and certainly not very original.*
Making a Mod engine run as fast as you have in a 2 ton four door sedan is the most original concept.
Stuffing an old school, BIG inch BBF (BOSS, FE or 385 series) into a Marauder is still very cool!
Shoving a BBC in a Marauder is.......just WRONG!
*I'm so friggin' tired of seeing;

There are enough Chebbie powered Fox's already. It's disgusting. I have a spare 289, 390, and 351 in the garage. I'm putting one of them in a Camaro. :shake:
I hate the Ford rods with Chevy power. Makes me sick. It's lazy. If you're gonna do it, do it right. Standby for pics of an 80's Camaro with a 351M in it. :D
All Marauders have mods in them, I have to admit it would be pretty cool to see a 385 powered one. Being an FE guy myself, i don't see an FE being the most efficient way to get the job done. They are just too heavy. They move air like the devil, but they're heavy. A 385 in a MM is along the same lines as a BB 385 Fox, it's done often because it works and works well. Make sure it's over 500 ci for awesomeness factor, and don't forget the spray. ;)

Lots of goodies out there for Windsors... They're cheaper to build than BBC's. And would fit better.
Doing whats the most challenging is always the coolest in the end, regardless of how it performs (or doesnt)

Marty go with the BBF it will make more HP. Can be made to have more CI than GM and nearly all head to head engine builder competitions have had BBF ahead of BBC. The mopar big blocks give BBF a run for it's money. I guess there are some $ advantages but some of the guys I know say it is a wash. If you go with a BBC it will not be a MM.

At the risk of oversimplifying, I think somebody willing to step out of the box and even consider a pushrod engine for a MM track car is worth watching. fwiw, I actually was considering a mod engine for my Torino enough to buy a Lincoln Intech and all the wiring a few years back. I ended up selling it all, and decided to go FE stroker. I agree with you, different is good, to an extent. Not the Chevy in a Ford extent, but maybe a nice Windsor or 385. You'll pay a weight penalty for the BB, but the Windsor would hang the skinnies pretty easy.

FRPP BOSS50 Big Bore Stroker
FRPP Built Coyote
FRPP Aluminator 4.6 4v SC
FRPP BBF - 521ci

Pretty sure I know the results on GM power. It needs replaced with:
1. 427 Windsor Stroker w/ hairdryer (big single or twin)
2. 532 or 545 BBF stroker on spray with a Dommie on top
3. 347 Fuelie with a centri huffer
4. Now in the running, thanks to Joe Walsh, an all aluminum FE with lots of spray. FE's love love love the spray.
That's a list I would vote on. If Chevy is in the running, I'll do what I did for the presidential election. Sit at home and watch the mistake happen. :D

Twins on the mod motor first. if this is going on the car you have now. it wouldnt be that hard to change. plus you don't need to worry about sling belts...
look at my little single turbo 2v. It has run best of 11.3 with avg 12.7lbs. it will be it the 10's in a week or so.
Good luck with the build.

I humbly submit that part of what makes a Marauder a Marauder is the under-dog-ish nature of the little 281 that could. I mean really. Making a big car go fast is tough enough, but to do so at the levels we've achieved with a mere 281 cubic inch based block?! Now THAT sets us apart.
Even my meager (by Marty's or Tom's standard) power output and performance inspire awe around my little town. I open the hood and 'Man, that's a big motor.' And then to say 'it's only a 281' just plain old leaves mouths agape.
Think about it. You pulled a 9.62 at over 4000 lbs with a mere 281 cubic inches. To say you pulled a 9.62 in a Mustang with a 383 is kinda like 'so what'. To say you pulled it in a full body sedan.... with a 4.6 is SOMETHING!
So in the end, if you put a big block in it - it will still say 'MARAUDER' on the bumper, but it will lose it's true spirit of leaving them confounded.

I absolutely agree with what you've said....Making a lil' 281 run like that is incredible!
I guess that I look at it this way....after you've huffed the living snot out of a modular 4.6...taken it to the outer limits...to the point that it is very unreliable and breaks all the time.
Then, if it were me, I'd say; "OK I've done enough with the 'little motor that could' but not on a reliable basis."
"Now it's time to get REALLY serious about HP and drop in some big cubes and a run-all-day at 1,200 HP, twin turbo BBF."
BTW: If you want to get crazy, do something like this.....only with a Ford Twin Turbo 6.4 Powerstroke in a Marauder!
