I'm curious as to why the 4.10s seem to be the obvious choice with these cars. I'm just worried about losing too much top end or making it annoying to drive on the freeway due to noise. I was thinking about 3.73s until I started looking at the site. Set me straight on this one....
Thanks for any replies...

The top speed loss is no big issue. 4.10's on these cars is very tolerable on the highway. As for why they're so popular is because for the vehicle weight a little extra torque multiplication to the rear wheels is a good thing. :D

Its a heavy car and the 3.55's mated with a engine that don't make much low end torque is the reason why 4.10s are the perfect match. 3.73's are a waste of time and money. You won't notice any difference. 4.10s make the car perform the way it should have from the factory. I've still managed to bury the needle with the 4.10's so don't think that it will drastically affect your top end. It also adds another 200 RPM at 65mph and may drop your MPG by 1.

How much top end did you think you'll lose?

If your gears are installed & setup properly there will be no more noise than the stock gears.

3.73's are a waste of time & money.

I wouldn't call 3.73's a waste of money. I however have a higher stall TC so that's also something to consider when getting gears. The factory wheels are 18" so 4.10's really aren't that bad. 3.90 is another ratio you can consider. You will need a tune to correct the shift points and speedo. You will also need a better driveshaft if you are worried about top end.

Thanks for all the info guys. I plan on doing a tune with either Lidio or Rein when I do gears. Gotta get her home first.

So how do you guys think 3.73s would be with 16" wheels?

I think 4.10s with the smaller wheels might be a little too much?

Agree. 3.55 or 3.73 would be good for 16" wheels. Whats in yours now for a RAR? I had 3.73 with my old CVPI and it had 16" - I felt it was too much for long highway trips...something I do a lot of.

p.s. are you done yet?

As a newbie, I had the same questions about the 4.10s. And I as well had some reservations. But after chatting to a lot of the folks on here, I felt more comfortable popping in the 4.10s.

Having said that, I am very happy with the 4.10s. She performs the way she should, almost like it was meant to be from the git go. I get no highway noise, no singing and quiet as a church mouse. I have no mods other than a K & N CAI and the stock exhaust on her so I would hear if there was a noise. At 60 MPH, I am only sitting at a flat 2000 RPM on the highway in OD.

I think you'll be happy, but thats just my newbie opinion. :)

Thank you for your input.

3.08 open diff right now, obviously that won't do....
plus I have a 3600 stall converter.
I do plan on driving the car, though...so I don't want to go with too tall a gear.

Not done yet, I've got a ton of wiring to do, my MM wiper box should be here tomorrow.
Also have fuel lines to do, P/S lines, trans lines/cooler, U-joints, etc., waiting for coolant crossover and alternator to come back from powdercoat. Still gotta figure out thermostat location, etc.
Lots of little things......lol.

I don't know of a single person who has regretted going to 4.10s.

Well, actually I do...Billy Gman ended up with 4.56s. ;)
