So I am suprised this has not been a topic of discussion yet:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oyEvk-VTuEI&NR=1

Just why is it that with the US has no idea what it is and where it came from? There is no way that is possible....with all that has been said about our missle defense system. So what gives....accidental launch, posturing...not much reaction from our government tells me they know whats up.

I think its just a jet contrail that from the camera angle and the sunset looks like it is going up when its actually going away from the camera.

If our government, or military, Homeland security, does not know who, when, what, this is, then they need to be replaced.

I have seen that vid several times.....cant see how it would be an optical illusion especially with the clouds there

Dear Peoples Republic of China,

We seen your message. Very impressive shootin' BTW! No one here thought you folks could actually launch a missile from a bamboo boat. Sorry about the mix up guys! Seriously though, the check is in the mail.

Signed,
Uncle Sam.

PS, can we borrow some more money? We're good for it.

It was already explained as a plane and is an optical illusion, but if it makes ya feel better, barbed wire and duct tape are on special this week!

I tend to believe the airplane contrail optical illusion explanation since I have noticed this myself especially over water. The FAA could clear this up pretty quickly by just listing which flight it was and its destination. They should be able to trace it easily by location and time of sighting.

... unless of course it was one of those special military missions/planes that we are not supposed to know about. :o Or it might have been an alien spacecraft headed to Area 51 to drop of some more visitors. :P

They (the government) know what it is. The video looks nothing like a plane to me but Im not an expert. Ive got my tin foil, shelter, and a crap ton of ammo for my weapons incase the zombie apocalypse is upon us

Good question. I believe the general rule of thumb is as follows;

Outbound missiles =
Inbound missiles = :help:
Outbound missiles fired from an unknown source/location =

When the threat level reaches  , you should start buying ammo. If the threat level goes to :help:, you should start using your ammo.

Actually, it's always a good time to stock up on ammo. Except 22-250. Leave that in the store for me.

Really, folks--just think this thing through. There is research going on to provide the US with the most advanced aircraft in the world--this info is highly classified, as it should be--you definitely don't want anybody to know about it--remember the U-2 SR-71, F117, B-2--they were developed and tested in total secrecy and saved our butts many times. With 22,000 hours in the air, I can assure you that is not the contrail of any airliner --- just enjoy the unique sight and let the best aircraft research group in the world work in peace and secrecy. Please don't give me the "It's my right to know--it's my money" . Without this research and development, we'll lose the next war---think about it, Maury

Ha!

I don't think you have too much to worry about, I don't think anybody can or would want to try to take over the USA.

And you have nothing to worry about with Canada...

as long as we remain #1 in hockey!

Now there has been a sighting very similar in New York. A picture of it was posted in the newspaper today.
