They did that purely for the sound. Not for any horsepower gain. Barely any exhaust exits there due to the flow path, but, Ford used computer sims to get the sound synched up perfect by doing this. And, I believe I read that it is adjustable, you can "accidently" pull the baffles out. :D

Seems from a lot of the comments that a lot of folks aren't too keen on this idea. I think one of the comments hit it right on the head though: I bet this is Ford's way of passing the federal rules and guidelines while still offering a "factory" high-performance model.

I guess I think of it this way: yeh, at the end of the day it may be expensive, but at the end of the day what is a 12-second 1/4-mile grand-touring-capable-car worth to you?

State inspections I would assume. :D We're not getting the whole story though, the article says it adjust PCM parameters for more low end trq and more aggressive timing etc.... being HP is a function of TRQ then how is it possible to still bee 440HP?
