Hey y'all, I love the hood with the cowl that some of the members have..I'm saving my pennies to buy one. I'm wondering if a scoop could be installed on the hood (the stock hood ) that would be functional,as in directly into air intake..any advantages?? ideas?? PS HAPPY VETERANS DAY belated to all my vet bros...

It would probably require some intricate plumbing as the air intake is up in the left corner. Some folks here either remove the headlight, or have a dummy headlight for racing. It's an old Mustang trick that gives you "sort of" ram air. It is possible to plumb a tube from the headlight to the intake, or even from the bumper to the intake for a ram air system. Not sure about gains going from the bumper. The bends in your plumbing would probably offset the added volume you could get from there versus the headlight route. Those who have done this claim more power, I have no reason to doubt it.

Very true ^ I run .2 better every time the headlight is out, especially with my front inlet conical filter.

It is a VERY tight fit indeed. I have to polish out minor scuffs on the bumper every time!

i loosen the grille just a bit and ease the headlight out no scruffs or scratches, very simple.
just make sure you dont overtighten it when put back on.

IIRC, fastbackmerc has some quick disconnect set up which makes removal and reinstallation very simple.

Headlight removal takes me MAYBE three minutes. First off, there are two ( I think, maybe three) screws that when you look down, connect the headlight to the brackets inside. You want to cut out the arched portion so that you don't have to take the screws completely out in the future. After you do that, future removal is very simple.

1. Remove the push tab radiator/headlight access cover.
2. LOOSEN (Not remove) screws as mentioned above.
3. Unplug harness
4. LOOSEN the two side marker lamp bolts as far as you can without them falling off. Pull marker lamp as far away from the body as you can.
5. Push down stabilizer tab and pull from the front, push from the rear. Get giggy with it and shimmy it a bit side to side. Don't get caught up on anything. Should come right out. Its far easier to loosen the side marker lamp then the grille.

Voila! And I picked up a tenth with it out, two tenths without the filter. :burnout:

If I ran 13.00000, Ill yank the filter off, otherwise I think Ill live with the filter installed.
I may work on getting the headlight out before E-town.

i use a snap on cordless drill, long extension, and a 5/16 magnetic bit no mod to he head light but it is still a good idea. 3 minutes or less i right.
