Comments: The big news for 1969 was the introduction of a new option for the GTO. Rumored to be a sleeper budget model to combat the Plymouth Road Runner, it actually was the opposite. Named after a phrase on the TV show "Laugh In", the Judge was actually a $332 option package that included a new 366bhp Ram Air III 400 cid V8, outrageous body paints, a large rear spoiler, and decals throughout. New to both versions of the GTO was a Ram IV 400 cid V8 seriously underrated at 370bhp, as well as restyled taillights, deletion of the vent windows, and the discontinuation of the HO engine.

Production: Hardtop Coupe: 58,126 Convertible: 7,328 Judge Hardtop Coupe: 6,725 Judge Convertible: 108
Engines: 400 V8 265 bhp @ 4600 rpm, 397 lb-ft @ 2400 bhp. 400 V8 350 bhp @ 5000 rpm, 445 lb-ft @ 3000 rpm. 400 V8 Ram Air III 360 bhp @ 5100 rpm, 445 lb-ft @ 3600 rpm. 400 V8 Ram Air 366 bhp @ 5100 rpm, 445 lb-ft @ 3600 rpm. 400 V8 Ram Air IV 370 bhp @ 5500 rpm, 445 lb-ft @ 3900 rpm.
Performance: 400 RA III/360: 1/4 mile in 13.89 sec. @ 101.4 mph. 400/366 Ram Air: 1/4 mile in 13.70 sec. @ 103.6 mph. 400/370 Ram Air IV: 0-60 in 6.2 sec, 1/4 mile in 14.4 sec @ 98mph.

Figure once I hit 13.7 (SW LT's) I'll be faster than the baddest stock judge. (whole lot cheaper too)

That auction was held local to me.

Every car in that auction went for big money.

Apparently, someone forgot to tell the bidders about the recession.

Now you just wait a second there Mr. Walsh, they stopped making pontiac the only good thing GM had. If there was any vehicle to hit 682,000 bucks at an auction it should be a GTO judge. Pontiacs performance tests were underrated RAM AirIIIs were capable of 13 second quarter mile times stock and I've seen stock Ram Air IV run high to mid 12s. Ponchos aren't given the credit they deserve but they are badass cars. Im talking about the older cars though 63-81 pontiacs. The new ones are sort of import rip offs. Pontiac is all about performance and image. GTO stands for Gran Turismo Omologato meaning in Italian "Ready To Race". I still think the 64 GTO was the first musclecar. lol

They did not run those times off the show room floor! You better check your facts and you will find that most of the times are pure myth! I was around in those days and the times did not happen as you claim.

Represented as #63 of the 69 built. Great paint, interior and underhood presentation. Good chrome generally but weak front bumper chrome. No Reserve. Said to dyno at nearly 600 brake horsepower, the ZL-1 Camaro is one of the legends of the Muscle Car era. The high water mark on their value history came about 2 years ago when Mecum Auctions sold the ex-Otis Chandler 7,000 mile original example (with its ZL-1 out and on a stand ready to display and run) for $800,000. As things have transpired subsequently the price this beautifully restored and well-equipped example brought here represents the current market.

GTO stands for Gran Turismo Omologato meaning in Italian "Ready To Race"

Frank Zappa's girl-band friends (the GTO's) said it meant Girls Together Often

I was just watching a Barrett-Jackson rerun tonight and one of the cars was a beautiful fully documented 1970 GTO Judge in orange that sold for I think 68k. I dont understand the logic of paying crazy money for mass produced muscle cars just because certain option packages were rare (hemi Cuda ragtops, the above Judge ect...) Duesenbergs, Auburns, Cords, maybe a few of the pre-war V-16 Caddys and Lincolns and thats about it for crazy money US cars in my book. I love muscle cars and I persnally know how much it costs to restore one but I just dont see any of them worth over 100k. If I was rich and buying cars for an investment, I would try to round up as many famous 60's altereds, gassers, AFX cars or 70's era floppers or NASCAR cars. Someday those will be worth crazy money though right now you can still find em fairly cheap.

You'd think he'd be able to purchase at least 3 with that amount of money, or buy 10 and restore them all... I don't know just a thought! I guess if you got YOU got it Cha-cHiNg!!!

Hey..I'm not knocking Pontiacs and GTOs!
I think that they are really cool cars. I just can't see paying that kind of coin for one...regardless of how rare it is.
Besides...who is ever going to drive a 700K GTO???

Personally, I'd pay top doller for a rare Shelby...long before I dropped the stack on a GTO Judge.

Yep, Remember all the collectors who dropped 1 MILLION+ on Hemi convertibles and even 300K on Hemi clones.......a few years ago?
They are sucking wind on the resale value of those cars now.

LOL well after thinking about it again you're right. $700,000 for a car to sit in a garage for most of its life? :puke:
