View Full Version : Alternate Factory Wheels

I was browsing pics of the Marauder convertible concept and noticed that this car had different factory wheels than ours. It has the gods head emblem in the middle, but is quite different. I like it. Too bad the 'vert didn't see production, because I would have liked to be able to order those wheels for my car.

I'll attach one one of the pics.

here's another shot. The first looks bad because of quality drop due to reducing the size of the photo. I'll repost the shot after cropping, which should fix the problem.

Okay, this should be a better shot of the wheel.

This shot is from the 2002 Chicago car show and is of one of the blue models. Couple of things... it's clearly a 300B (filler door) and there's a black panel below the trunk and around the backup lights. Not having seen a blue in person, did the 2003 blues have this black panel?

After looking at the blue car at higher size settings, it's apparent that the area just looks blace, it's acutally blue. Something about the color shift in the photo makes it look darker than the rest of the car. Strange.

That mysterious color shifting area is plastic,.. I believe. Maybe that's why?

Donny,

Auto Show and Concept Cars almost always have "one-off", specially manufactured parts for the car. Witness the recent showing by Trilogy at SEMA with the "ground effects" package on their Marauder.

I like those wheels as well...but most likely they were just made for that car. (I guess you could have bought the whole car off ebay a few months ago and got the wheels, when it sold)

Here are the pics of MY favorite Marauder concept. From SEMA '02, the S55 Marauder. It's what made me want to go with my red valve covers. You will also see in the last pic on the bottom the acknowledgments of the companies that made the "one-off" accessories for the showcar.

Those look like the rims off or the same as the Blackhawk concept Crown Vic. http://home.comcast.net/~hack_goby/bh.bmp

Thanks for the pics Donny, I didn't get to see that car.

I disagree.

In the past, I have said "sorry, I disagree," but I'm not sorry, so why bother with that?

Donny's wheels appear "Beemer-like" to me. The Trilogy facia is likewise "Beemer-like" to me as well. Add the two together, and the MM looks like a "BBBeemer." A sexy yet "plus" sized sports sedan that wants to appear slimer, more a sporty coupe perhaps.

MMs are not tiny, or, underpowered. Quit playing with appearances, you're not going to make the MM look any trimmer, or, quicker, with wheels, tires, or, plastic. The MM is a big and broad...Umm...Broad? Well, my "big-boned" girl will rock your socks off. Feed her right, and you will get your azz kicked, period. The MM may be busting out all over, but she's will bust out all over you, and everything out there.

Wheels, paint, plastic, it's all make-up anyway. Give your big boned girl some room, she'll clean a rack before you will know it. Just watch your toes, gents, if they don't get run over, they may catch a shot of chew.

This MM is a big beautiful sedan the way she sits, deal with it.

Those wheels look like the old EMPI VW wheels, only in chrome.

Well, I'm with Todd. I really like the 'black chrome" wheels on the S55 concept. With the flashy chrome gods head logo in the center along with chrome wheel nuts. This is very likely to be a future mod on my MM once I get tired of the flashy chrome OEM wheels.

Has anybody done the Black Chrome on their wheels?

Barry did the dark powdercoating, I believe. Don't know if that's similar to what you're describing. Looks absolutely knockout.

I'm with Sarge... the brawny 5-spokers go with the image, at least the image I'm getting from this car. To be perfectly frank (even though my name's actually Steve), I'm quite impressed at the level of detail they sculpted into the stockers, especially considering the "parts bin" nature of this car. Very classy, in my humble opinion.

Speaking of wheels... something I've been meaning to post for a few months now. Back in April or May, I was gassing up (the car, not me) when I spotted nearly identical wheels (but smaller scale) on a Mazda of some sort! Now... Mazda-Ford... Mazda-Ford... Mazda-Ford... I know there's a relationship there, business-wise... has anyone ever noticed a similar-to-MM wheel on any mid-sized Mazdas?

It's not a dark power coating. Hard to describe. I have a similar process on the OEM 16" wheels on my'96 Tbird sport. Window sticker on s55 concept car lists Alcoa and Gold Star Coatings for the so called black chrome. Went to the Gold Star Coating website but looks like they just manufacture the coating.

I do, very much indeed, like the convertible. If there were the two I'd take the drop top. As for the S55...The dark grey metallic color of the gauges look pretty nifty in conjunction with re-done rims.

Has anyone contacted any of those companies? There was some special "gods head" badging used, and other things.

As for wheels, I'm partial to 5-spokes. Period. Be they Pontiac Rally II's, Audi A4's, or the Marauder 5-spokes- anything more looks too busy, IMO.
Now, what I WOULD have liked, is a powdercoat finish, as a downgrade (lower-cost) option. The high-polished look still reminds me of the stuff you see in the 'hood- and I like the better durability of the silver powdercoat.

This is the picture I was looking for.

Not the style but the coating.

This is similar to what I would like but maybe a little darker.
I think it would look good on the 5-Spoke wheels in either Silver and Red.

Anybody know any photoshop people who could give it a try?
