Been wanting to try this for a while. My lights have about 110k miles of sandblasting on them. They were very dull. I thought about new ones but thought I would try this first. I removed the lights and started with 100 grit red oxide sanding pad on my porter cable polisher at a speed setting of 4. This took most of the damage away except for the really deep chips which I left since I was afraid to take away that much glass. Then I stepped up to a 150 grit pad. Then to 600 grit. Then finally I used a foam cutting pad and some rubbing compound. They don't look like new but they look way better. I'll snap some pics tomorrow but I'm happy with the results.

I've been wondering how to takes the sandblasting off my fog lights. Looking forward to the pictures.

Never knew you could sand glass like that, you must of gone through a ton of sand paper

Then spray them with clear and they will look new. We do it all the time at the body shop I work at.

On the contrary, having handled a broken one I assure you it is glass.

Same thing with me. I had one shatter and I was shocked to find out it was glass. I managed to get a used one to replace it which worked out good because it was equally sandblasted as the remaining one. I didn't want one shiny and one dull and I didn't have the money for two new ones at the time.

Wow what a difference it made in the lens. I need to change a bulb so at the same time I will put a pollish mine.

Clearcoat may be fine for fog light use here and there but it will dull and fade down the road. Apply new UV sealant.

The glass really eats up the sanding discs. I thought about hitting them with clear but decided it was too much trouble to break out the spray gun. They look good enough for now. With all the road construction on the highways I'm fighting a losing battle anyways.

i bought 2 off of ebay when they were going for 20 bucks each, 3 weeks later one got smashed by a rock so i put an old one back in, about 2 weeks ago the same side got smashed again. ive got one unsmashed one left.

Same deal with mine-looks like glass you find washed up on the beach. I saw a post with the part number listed. Does anyone know it offhand? As Roseanne Rosanneadanna used to say: "Nevermind". (I just found the other post.)
