What is the highest watt / out put bulb we can use in our fog lights that will not melt the small gauge wire or burn the socket or harm the electrical system ?

I have H1 HIDs as well, you have to modify the stock bulb connector and splice in the pos, neg..wasn't too bad.

I will be doing CCFL or LED rings in the fog lights in the spring, if I find decent bright ones btw.

Yep what they said and HIDs require less power so they don't get as hot as halogen bulbs either.

Is there a detailed write up on this? May not be much to it, but I'm up for a cheap upgrade

There are a few write-up threads about the H1 HID kit for the foglights.

I'm awaiting my new lights which should be here on the 26th. I plan on doing a fairly detailed write-up with pictures for installing the DDMtuning slim ballast 35 watt H1 kit this weekending coming up or next week sometime.

There really isn't much to it besides modifying the foglight connection, mounting the ballast securely and wiring them up. If you've never done anything like it before it's always good to get as much info and advice about it.

I plan on doing some 6k in the near future. Have 8k's coming for the headlights, but I want to sand down the lenses on the foglights before installing the HID's. They have some serious road rash.

You should do the same color cause you're going to have two noticeable different hues going on. lol

Yeah, I was thinking that, but I also use my fogs for a little extra brightness in the fogs for when I need it. My buddy wanted to have me do 3k's and I said no way! haha. I don't want to blind people! I will see what I decide. I know it sounds weird to have two different brightnesses, but I was thinking a little extra brightness in the fogs for when I need that extra light. You may be right though.

3500K wouldn't blind people as much as 4300 or 5000K since they are closer to direct sunlight coloring.

What do you use the fog lights for? Aside from maybe making potholes a bit easier to see, they don't seem to have any real function.

I guess since they're toys for display purposes, might as well add some 'hey, look at me' to 'em :puke:

True they are not the most effective oem lamps. I think when the bumper was designed they may have been thinking brake vents. I am convinced HIDS are the answer.

The answer to what problem? How to make the foglights useful... in fog? Seriously, I don't get it.

It's just a matter of personal preference. More light output from the fog lights does help light up most things within 5-10ft in front of you. I know it's not a lot but I know I can see more towards the sides of the road better when I have mine on. During the daytime I usually drive with my parking lights and fog lights on.

I got mine noticeably brighter by removing the defuser from the fixture, and installing silverstars.
