I lived in Oz for a couple of years in the late 90's and for as much as those guys drink there really isnt much drunk driving that I saw. Im pretty sure there are three main reasons:

1. Friday and Saturday roadblocks - they stop all cars and check every driver with a breathtester they just hold up to your face and you talk, no blowing in tubes. If you are over, off to jail (or gaol as they spell it there);

2. If you get a DUI you lose your license period, no work passes ect;

3. Every city and town, even small towns, have some sort of decent, fairly cheap cabs services.

I wish we would do the same thing here but it will never happen.
