drags in those days were so much more home grown, just alot of guys showing up with the cars they drove all week,

Just another indication I was born too late for my time. Cars were probably less dependable then too and people drove them all year. Where did everyones balls go?! :mad2:

When those razorblade February winds blow in from Iowa, and the asphalt strips of US30 and Union Grove and Byron are covered in five foot drifts, even the hardiest ChiTown street racers know it's hibernation season.

LOL it's so true!

The venue: the venerable International Amphitheater at 42nd and Halsted, amid the Southside projects and just a stone's throw from the old Chicago Stockyards

Funny it's at this location. This is two blocks from where I would do my best racing off the track.

The end stretch reminds me of the remake of Death Race 2000 AKA Death Race with the cars going by the garages at 80mph.

Very cool find!

Hey Bob and Dom-check out the 57' Chevy picture in the old indoor Amphitheatre shots and notice the name on the side of the car -Shake, Rattle and Run. Those guys were from the old Roseland area and ran that car out of Willies Speed shop in Blue Island. Used to see that car run in the 70's when I went with my dad to old US 30 dragway. They showed up with the updated version of the 57' at the Chicago Heights Burnout contest this year. Not sure if you guys saw it or not but it is one bad-assed car!

I do remember that and noticed the car. I knew there was a Shake Rattle and Roll car too, but I think that was from the 30's... as far as the body style went. Cool!

BTW that's the only 1/8th mile track that will ever interest me. Too bad it's gone.
