i noticed the other night that the headlight control has no lighting on it at all. im almost positive that my vics light controls lit up. been about 4 years since i had that car though. is there a bulb in there that's burnt out perhaps?

Only the fog lamp indicator lights. The rest of the panel has no lights.

Yah I nver got that! My '96 t-bird was like that too. No light for a switch that you only need to look for at night...brilliant.

my thoughts exactly. was kinda hoping it was a burnt bulb ..... not a retarded engineer. good ol ford.

Mine lights up... Yes there is a bulb that can be replaced, but Ford doesn't list it as replaceable....

Search over on CVN, someone found Radio Shack stocks a bulb that will work...

BTW it has wire leads so may require a little soldering...

soldering is the easy part. i do that all day long as it is.

No light for a switch that you only need to look for at night...brilliant.I leave my switch on Auto...I don't think I've had to look for it or touch it in years.

*EDIT: "That's what she said!"

I figured someone would add that sooner or later...

Auto is fine as long as you have Halogen bulbs, if you were to switch to HID lights I highly recommend not leaving it on Auto or at least turn the lights off before starting the car. Starting the car with them on can cause the HID ballast premature death.

There is a bulb for the headlight switch. It's called a "wheat" bulb. Radio Shack has them, but you have to solder longer leads on the new bulb.

As I always say the only stupid question is the question that was never asked.

My bulb is toast as well and so is the little bulb holder. Wonder if I can still rig something up for it.

Ridiculous they put a bulb in that burns out right away.

The Radio Shack bulb is smaller than orig, so assuming your holder looks like the one in the link I posted, you can just cut the burned part off and use a smaller sleeve inside it to hold the new bulb...

Also thought maybe one of the bulb sockets for the small #37 wedge base bulb could be wired and epoxied to the holder(again after it's cut down), the bulb would then be easily replaceable...

Could someone measure their bulb??? Guessing it's roughly .25" diameter & .50" length, if so I'm thinking Mouser's 2182(mid page, right) is probably very similar to the orig, rated at 14v & 40K hours it should never need replacement again...

How do you get the light switch disassembled? Does the switch knob simply pull off to reveal screws that attach the switch assembly to the dash? Or am I missing something? Thanks....

I don't even remember where I put the bulb holder at after I pulled it out. lol

Anyone have a part number for a new headlight switch? The one I got off cvn.net is SW6703 / 8W7Z-11654-AA. If I can get one for less than $50 I'll just replace it but upgrade the bulb before I install the new switch.

I did this repair during the summer with the radio shack bulb. It works, but it's nowhere near as bright as the original bulb.

I'm looking at replacing it with an LED.
