Ordered a rebuild kit and it said it included install instructions. The instructions said to look in the repair manual for instructions. Anyone have a link or instructions? I've replaced the axles already but I never took a carrier out before.

After soaking the clutches in some friction modifier, put the new clutches in the same order as the ones that are in there now.

Thanks but I have a few more questions. When I remove the carrier are there any precautions? Will the shims fall out? What should I torque the carrier bolts to? Blue loctite on the bolts? These are the things I also need to know.

yes the carrier shims will fall out - make sure to put them back the way they came out. same with the bearing caps. bearing caps should be torqued to 77 ft/lbs

Can't wait to do this. It'll be nice to have it working again.

Unless your planning to replace the carrier bearings and/or gears there is no need to remove the carrier from the housing to replace the friction plates. The plates, side gears and pinion gears can all be R/R with the carrier in place (with axles removed of course). You really need the FOMOCO shop[ manual, there is a very good step by step section on this work.

Re-use the factory carrier shims if you can, they are solid pieces instead of thin shim plates.
