Ok im gonna try to make this long story short. My family is mostly gm drivers. Ok so my dad had a 66 impala (i loved that car!) 2 88 pick ups, buick riviera, 4 door cutlass, 76 camaro, 79 camaro and my first car an 80 4door impala! Now fastforward I get ready for my first car from a dealership and first thing im thinking is 96 impala ss right! The year is 2003 and my best friend works at a dealership so I got him checking all over the net and diff dealers. No luck everybody wanted an arm and a leg for a low mileage ss. So my buddy calls me an says I got something you might like! We go to legacy ford and what comes around the corner.... An 03 black marauder! What the.... Thats not an ss! My friend tells me thats the best I can find for you right now. Just take a test drive he says. ( I can remember like its yesterday) ok lets go. No I should have known something was special about the car because the manager was driving it and he had to drive his personal car home (89 mustang sounding like a monster!) I get in the marauder and we get on 85 the sales lady says drive it like its yours .... So while doing about 40 or so getting on the on ramp I drop it down into 2nd! ; )- needless to say I walked out that day with a nodown payment 03 blk marauder! what I never told you though is that my dad always tried to get me to buy a crown vic or grand marquis! He told me that one of the fastest cars he ever had was a 70's something police interceptor! What! Well when I brought home my baby my dad was sick with cancer bed ridden an just waiting for the LORD to call him home. I told him what I bought and showed it to him from his bed. My dad looked at me and said with a smile I hadnt seen in a long time..... Son you got yourself something right there! That was dec 10, 2004. Pops passed on the 20th and was laid to rest on the 24. I can proudly say my mm may have given me a chance to see my dad smile for the last time! And I love this car to death for it! Thanks for the read..... Big Mike.

A very special story Mike. Thanks for sharing.Almost like an angel planned this for you to have this special time with your father at the end. It would be hard for me to get rid of this car. Wish I would of had such a moment with my father.

Welcome Mike, and thanks for sharing. I have always had a soft spot for Impalas. The new SS's aren't bad if you forget about the FWD thing..and The 90s are a given classic, but I always also wanted a 80s body, like the one in To Live and Die in LA with police interceptor wheels.

Great story. Wish I had the same type relationship with my dad. With that being said, I owned a '96 Impala SS that I bought in 1999. I loved that car. I heard about the MM and awaited for it to hit the market. Then in 2004 I got to drive it. Lets say if I could have swapped right there, I would have given up the Impala SS on the spot. I just couldnt afford the MM so I kept the Impala. Now that I'm a proud MM owner, I look at Impala's totally different. I only like their stock stance.

Your not being greedy. I know how you feel. If I still had mine, I would keep it for other reasons. The MM comes factory built like the SS should have, plus the MM is faster

If you got an SS, you would probably like it, but there is really no comparison to the MM. Just my $.02. Did I mention that the MM is faster?

What a great story and well told, just before Christmas.

Mine would be somehow different. My father was an American born German man, who always bought American cars.

He looked with great approval at the 1982 and then the 1988 Crown Vic's I bought when I was single.

I'd have thought he'd been overjoyed when I showed up with this. http://i353.photobucket.com/albums/r388/cascade91/DSC_4754.jpg

They were the top of the Mercedes line, back then, MSRP = $84,500 then.

My father said, "Nice. But what was wrong with your FORD?"

Ahhh, I was so sad and ashamed.

He made me feel like I'd abandoned a wonderful car for a flashy black Mercedes.

Often times I think he was right.

He passed 4 1/2 years ago, having owned a '54 Ranch Wagon, a '62 Country Squire, and a '64 Falcon, all with manual transmissions and crank windows, no power steering or brakes or air conditioners or fancy hubcaps on any of them. "More stuff to go wrong" he said, about those options..

He liked Fords a lot. With my 2 Crown Vics, and my 2 '09 mgm's I have owned, I am definitely a Ford Panther guy. And I had a '67 Cougar through law school too so I too, like Fords, though I am furious that the Panther is going away.

He'll never see my '09 Mercury Grand Marquis. I've no doubt that he'd nod and approve if he knew I had it today, though.

It makes a nice stablemate to the Mercedes, which I still have.
