Today my MM surpassed the other 5 cars I have owned in maintenance costs combined, and I have now invested over 1/4 of what I paid for it in repairs.

I love this thing to death, but yikes.

What other cars have you owned, how long did you own them, and do you drive the others differently than you drive the MM?

I have had mine for 2 years and it has been dependable.

Key word is maintenance costs. Every car requires maintenance varying on type of driving and driving conditions.

Something's not right here. I don't get paid to work on my own cars and that's a major factor in me choosing a MM. You're either paying too much or driving too stupid. These things have their idiosynchrasis (?) such as lighting control modules, EATC modules, axles, and blower motor controlers but are far from maintenance whores. Get yourself an Audi and post back in a couple of years.

89 Buick LeSabre 2 door
93 Thunderbird
92 Thunderbird
97 Thunderbird
94 Chevy Caprice 9C1

I owned the Buick for a year, never had a maintenance issue with it, so no money invested. It was eventually wrecked by a driver not paying attention, totaled, I got more than I paid for it.

With that money, I bought the 93 Thunderbird. It chewed up a water pump, cost me about $200 to fix. Also had that for about a year, it also got wrecked by an idiot. Again, totaled, and got more than I paid for it from the claim.

With that money, I bought the 92 Thunderbird. It went through a couple thermostats, but the costly thing was the multi-function switch, which if I remember correctly, was about $125. I had that car for 2 years and sold it for $200 more than I paid for it with almost 20k more miles.

I sold that because I bought the 97 Thunderbird. I got this one dirt cheap because it needed an alternator and a battery, which was around $200 for both I think. I then had the intake manifold crack, so I got an updated one with the aluminum crossover from another T-Bird owner and put it in myself, for about $50. I kept that car for just shy of 3 years, then sold it for more than I paid for it plus the maintenance, so it was an overall profit.

I bought the Caprice as a beater so I don't have to drive the MM in the salt. I've only had it 2 months, and have had no repairs.

I've had the MM for 11 months, and repairs have already surpassed $3000. The MM is my newest car relative to the year I bought it, and has the least miles by a large margin.

Also, by maintenance, I am disregarding tires, brakes, filters, etc. that are part of the normal life of a car. Those are expected events, I am solely basing this on things that break.

it also depends how the previous owner treated the car. i have spent almost 1/2 of what i paid for the car just trying to perfectionate the car to my standards and the list still not over. ohh and thats not counting the transmission i broke in october.

I feel ya Juice, I have had mine 6 months and have to sink about $3K into it, some of it should ahve been done by the previous owner but

I had a Rear Differential Leak
Bad Header Gasket
Had to put Cat's on in order to pass emissions
Fix the drivers side window switch (motor burned out)
Fix the Cruise control switches (both were fried, and never worked since I bought it)
Once those were fixed, the Cruise still wasn't working, had to get a new Speed Module
Had to get a second set of keys cut, because the previous owner never sent me the spares and I can't get a hold of him

So all in all, it has cost me quite a bit, but I do love it, and don't anticipate any problems in the near future (Ofcourse do we ever anticpate problems?)
Plus I got a really good deal on it when I bought it, so in the end I'm happy.

Ahhhh forgot about that. Replaced the windshield in the 97 Bird, still made a profit though.

By the way, I got orders to the Reagan in San Diego. Looks like they didn't wipe their asses with my dream sheet after all. :D

You're right, over reacted a bit, sorry for the disrespect but I see cars break every day and these cars are not chronic in general.
My first Marauder I bought new and went 30k miles and 5 years before totalling it without a failure (lost money on that extended warranty)!
I got this Marauder two years ago with 10k miles on it. During a "spirited driving event" with a modded Mustang I neglected to disengage the overdrive(speaking of driving stupid) and sheared the stub shaft in the transmission clean at high speed. While it hung in the air at the shop for 4 days during the repair the left front shock started leaking due to their unnatural position so I had to replace those.
Other than that, tires and oil changes. There are the "Bad Eggs" every once and a while but I don't see many Marauders in that bunch.

I spent that this year for a new set of skins, 2 were mounted to a spare set of new wheels, alternator 3rd one, fuel pump and six more #'s of boost .
Oh yeah, with help from my pal justbob, throw in a "J" mod too!

lol, i figured you just had a bad day or something. you don't strike me as the type to tell someone to get another car because they had to fix thier marauder. then again, i've been catching flak today for asking someone how they got their rims stolen. this place is strange sometimes but i love it anyways.
