I had Apple Valley Ford give me an estimate to change out my gears for 4:10 's now that I have some money saved up. With a discount (as a member of the MN Ford Enthusiasts club, it came to $718 for parts/labor/fluid etc. Zoiks!

The only part cost they mentioned is $135 for the gears and $60 for fluid and those seem good. I am sure that they could do top-notch work, but the price seems real high - On this forum I've only seen one mentioned over $500. Does anyone know a good shop near St. Paul that could do better than that?

You may want to ask around and see if you can find any speed shops that do a lot of Mustang work, or that are familiar with 8.8" Ford rear ends.

They're probably using an overhaul kit too. Between that and the gears, fluid, etc, and don't forget this is a labor intensive process, that doesn't seem like a bad price.

Nice price. Go for it.
(Make sure the gears are Ford Racing Gears.)

That's not bad at all. I've been quoted from $800 on the low end to $1200 at the upper if I got the gears myself. I say go for it.
