I installed an AutoMeter Pro-Comp Ultra-Lite Gauge in place of the cig lighter. Now i need a temp sender for the trans. Does any know the part number that I need? I could not find it on AutoMeters site.

Thanks for the help,

Dude, if you bought the AutoMeter Pro-Comp Ultra-Lite 2-1/16" Trans Temp gauge, P/N 4357, it should have come with a sender...

This is from their web site: (http://www.autometer.com/hp/2003_catalog/racing/59.html)

4357
Trans Temperature 100-250deg F
The above temperature gauge include 3/8" & 1/2" NPT
adapter and 1/8" electric sender

Install the sender and bung in the Trans Pan, not the case.
The only place it can be drilled and clear the valve body is the rear of the drivers side of the pan. Good luck.

Why not the case Zack? There's a lovely service port it screws right into...

Is it just that it takes a bit longer to get to temp as it's not sitting in the fluid puddle? But has always served it's purpose...

The cig lighter is on the shelf in my garage. I don't smoke and i do not allow smoking in my car.

RF Overlord,

I have the gauge you describe. I bought it a while ago from Summit & it did not come with a sender. I was not smart enough at the time to realize that the sender was not already on the trans.

Hmmmm....that's odd...the info for this gauge on Summit's web site also says it comes with a sender...

A couple of our more adventurous members, who first scoped out installing the real oil pressure gauge, sent e-mails to AutoMeter and were told AM does not sell the gauges or the senders separately...perhaps you should take it up with the Summit people and ask them where your sender went...

Well honestly, Ive always had the sender in the case until I had the trans rebuilt by Jerry W. He told me Id get a much more accurate temp. reading in the pan.
The real reason I switched it to the pan is when he told me fluid only flowed through the service port while in a certain gear.
If I hadnt had the trans out and apart, would I have moved it then? No.
I feel that my car is now more of a 'precision' machine with all of the upgrades, thus the needed accuracy of trans temp.

Good enough for me... When I rebuild my tranny, I'll be moving it to the pan anyway....
