Hi Ho fellow Marauders!
After considerable research and deliberation finally decided to upgrade my Marauder’s 8.8” 28 spline differential to the 31 spline set-up!
Ordered the 31 spline carrier from Summit and located the axles from a 2008 PI in a Florida wrecking yard.
This past Tuesday, Reared Specialties located here in San Jose performed the upgrade installation along with R & R all bearings, seals, Red Line Synthetic Oil and additive.
The upgrade install went without a hitch except for the Girdle I purchased which interfered with the rear sway bar!
Drove the MM back over the “Hill” Tuesday afternoon varying speed acceleration and could not detect any rear-end noise or clutch chatter!
Drove to the office this morning and so far so good! :banana2:
So in summary… IMO the key to an easy MM 31 spline upgrade is to use only Ford carrier and axles.

Why the upgrade on a N/A vehicle do you plan on adding some real power some day soon ?

Well there are 2 reasons for the 31 spline up-grade.
First when Rearend Specialties installed the 4:10 gears they informed me that the axles and spider gears where pitted so I knew that it was only a matter of time to replace them.
Secondarily I do have the intention to go with forced induction or Nitrous Ox gas and as is my habit am studying the features and benefits along with the cost of both options!
The only issue that I have is that the wife states that I’m no longer the hot rodding youngster I once was so she questions my reaction time, vision and perhaps instant decision making process coping with a high HP and TQ machine.
My strategy to address the wife’s issues is simple…resort to chicanery and manipulation! :cool4:
Oh Oh! But wait, she has vast experience in this regard! So the game of chess begins.

Tell her you don't need any of those things because you'll be going in a straight line!

Cool deal Fred. I am looking into this setup as well and Rear end specialty good choice it is where everyone in that region take their ride.
Nitrous would be nice choice for a power adder. Vendicated Tuning in Modesto is a Ford/Nitrous specialist. He can give you lots of info pros/cons....heck he's even convincing me to go that route as apposed to a SC. Cost less and he says "THE POWER IS THERE WHEN YOU NEED IT" when we debate SC vs NOS....lol. I still am steadfast on a Vortech setup but in the interim I might just be happy with some NOS+BBS:) hmmmm.....

Good list of parts, I see you have been doing your homework or paying a nerd to do it for you.

So many helpful suggestions I don’t know where to really begin in response so here goes… The wife knows full well that I commute 80 miles daily in the local vernacular “over the hill” meaning the Santa Cruz mountain range therefore the “straight line” driving rational is out!
Years ago we both instituted payment for each other’s life insurance from separate business accounts…tax purposes. When I increase her insurance coverage, she increases mine by a bit more percentage wise. Don’t know about you but this process makes me a bit wary.
All my research starts right here (this is the best source to date) and expands out to other sources of information and experience.
My son and I have performed the easy bolt-on mods as listed. So far only the tune and rearend work has been out sourced.
IMO there is a sever lack of local qualified, equipped and experienced performance shops installing and tuning Supercharges (could do it I with a kit) or Ni Ox kit certainly on MMs is a major limiting factor.
Brian’s suggestion (thanks) is an option but I dislike the idea of driving the MM about 80 miles one way for the SC or Ni Ox install and tune! What happens if ???, then your screwed.
But will continue to perform my due diligence and see what develops.
