Well, as a Democrat all I can say is I wish Speaker Boehner well and hope he remembers that nothing gets done without compromise (from both sides).

I'm an unabashed Conservative, but a BIG +2 on the need for compromise on both sides of the aisle.

The words “mother” and “father” will be removed from U.S. passport applications and replaced with gender neutral terminology, the State Department says.

“The words in the old form were ‘mother’ and ‘father,’” said Brenda Sprague, deputy assistant Secretary of State for Passport Services. "They are now ‘parent one’ and ‘parent two.’"

Sprague said the decision to remove the traditional parenting names was not an act of political correctness.

They should probably include some blank spaces for 'parent 3', 'parent 4', 'parent 5', and 'parent 6', just to be safe.

Forget compromise.

I hope the very first thing they do is order a pizza and spend the next two years debating what toppings they want on it.

And about how long have the politicos had to prepare for this????:mad2:

Doug Holtz Eakin, a former director of the Congressional Budget Office [says] "We know we can't pay all the Social Security and Medicare benefits that we promised. There isn't enough money in the world to do that so we know we're going to have to make cuts."...[Andrew Biggs, an analyst at the American Enterprise Institute] says. "But politicians are afraid to make the choices to do that."

There are lots of proposals to repair the finances of the two programs. But they're politically difficult, and the longer lawmakers wait, the harder and more painful the fixes get.

[Charles Blahous, a trustee of Social Security and Medicare] notes,
"There is an implicit bipartisan consensus," Blahous says, "that we're not going to suddenly cut benefits of people once they're receiving them. So we're not going to pay that 85 year-old widow $2,000 in January and then jerk her back to $1,800 in February. We're just not gonna do that."So every year that passes puts more seniors on the rolls, making their benefits politically untouchable -- meaning more and more of the solution has to come from tax increases.

Yep, BOHICA... :shake:

Careful, RINO means the "N" word now:

The sole black Republican Party district chairman in Arizona resigned from his post in the wake of Saturday's shooting, citing threats from the Tea Party faction and concerns for his family's safety, The Arizona Republic first reported (http://www.azcentral.com/community/ahwatukee/articles/2011/01/11/20110111gabrielle-giffords-arizona-shooting-resignations.html#ixzz1AqMYTq7 0).
Republican District 20 Chairman Anthony Miller was not the only party official to resign following the shooting that killed six and wounded 14 others, including Rep. Gabrielle Giffords (D-Ariz.) and a federal judge. But Miller had been an especially dedicated campaigner for the GOP, and said he only stepped down in the face of "constant verbal attacks" and other forms of intimidation.
"I wasn't going to resign but decided to quit after what happened Saturday," he said (http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/01/12/Miller%20told%20state%20Republ ican%20Party%20Chairman%20Rand y%20Pullen%20%20Read%20more:%2 0http://www.azcentral.com/community/ahwatukee/articles/2011/01/11/20110111gabrielle-giffords-arizona-shooting-resignations.html#ixzz1ArjWdZd C). "I love the Republican Party but I don't want to take a bullet for anyone."
Miller, 43, told HuffPost he decided to resign after his wife expressed concern for their safety. Miller had been the target of heavy criticism from Arizona Tea Partyers, in part because he worked on Sen. John McCain's campaign last fall. (The Tea Partyers favored McCain's opponent, J.D. Hayworth.)
But the attacks also took on a racial hue. One critic referred to him derogatorily as "McCain's boy," Miller said. Other language was even less ambiguous. At an event in Lake Havasu City, Ariz., Miller said someone called out, "There's Anthony, get a rope."
Yet Miller balks at crying racism.
"To say that anyone has been racially motivated, I can't really draw a conclusion," he said. "But a lot of people told me 'You're not a conservative, you're a RINO.' In my mind, that's just as bad as being called a n-----, honestly. When you call someone a n-----, it's saying they're less than, and RINO is the same thing."
