My 04 failed it's first CO emissions test today. It was the first time it was tested here. Passed all but NOx which was 1.95 against limit of 1.50 GPM. (they drive the car on rollers and try to follow the speed direction on a monitor, simulating a driving loop during the test and measure tailpipe output the whole time)
Car has high stall converter, Vortech S-trim with water IC, 4.10s, Reinhart tune. Last tune-up was about 6-7 months ago. Car has just over 45k miles on it.
Question is - do you think just a tune-up (new plugs, clean the air filter, clean injectors, etc.) would make enough of a difference to pass on re-test?
Would Sea Foam help? If so, how long (or how many miles) after using Sea Foam should I wait until trying a retest?
Thanks in advance.

How much run time did the car have that day proir to emissions test ?

About 30 minutes (drove to work in AM, then stopped at the test station on the way home) right before the test.

Thirty minutes should have been enough warm up time for proper engine functions. If you had no problem last year passing inspection you could have a few thing causing your problem. Your best bet is to data log engine functions & e mail to Reinhart for diognostic reading. Are you throughing any codes ? If not pull a plug or two & take a reading. Check your DPFE differental pressure sensor. It opens & closes the egr valve & can cause a lean condition.

Check your EGR system. That effects the NOx reading. I'm surprised they don't just plug into the OBD2 port to make sure all the sensors are normal.

A new tune could get you passed emissions.
You could go with two tunes if need be. One for emissions day, one for the rest of the time.

I would start with removing the egr tube that goes to the exhaust manifold and make sure it is'nt clogged, then remove and clean the valve with brake cleaner
If it's OK then replace the sensor on the egr valve.

+1 and after that disconnect battery for a couple minutes to clear all current settings.

Thanks. This was the very firsttime it got emissions tested. I have contacted Dennis about a custome emissions tune. Will also check the EGR and do general tune-up in the mean time.

next time you have it e-tested see about dropping it off cold. heat directly affects NOX

Thanks, all. We got ten inches of snow a couple days ago and they didn't plow the street, so the Marauder isn't going anywhere for a while. On top of that, I found out today that tomorrow is my last day at work. Going out on extended medical leave, so it may be a few days before things settle down and I can get back to the Marauder.
