One thing that I was taught while moving a motor vehicle was paying attention to other drivers on the road. This method is simple and str8 forward so that collisions are ignored. Well unfortunately some ppl just say f^^k this all together. I was blind-sided by a EXPLORER (Ford). The lady tried to say it was my fault (Not suprised). Then she realized she tried to make a left hand turn thru on-coming traffic. Now my car is being repaired no problem but jeeezzzz. I've only had it for 7 months and already I've been hit by someone who wasn't paying attention. Oh and to make it worst, she was going to Wine & Spirits.

I had that happen to me back in 1992. I was heading to work in my 1991 Explorer when some lady turned left in front of me. I hit the right side of her Cavalier at about 55 mph, luckily she didn't have any passengers. I had a brush guard on the front-end, and it opened the right side of that car up like a sardine can. When the emergency crews arrived, they looked at her car and then at my Explorer. They asked if that was my Explorer, and I said yes. They then said, "Man we're impressed".
Though the Explorer wasn't drivable, the passenger compartment stayed pretty much intact.
When my lawyer saw pictures of the Explorer and how well it stayed together, he went out and bought one for his wife.
Come to find how, this lady was insured by MAIF (Maryland Automobile Insurance Fund) , basically Maryland's State sponsored insurance for the "Uninsurable"....she had accident problems in the past.
I walked away with a wretched back and a level of frustration since the Explorer was only 6 months old.

just one of those things, when i bought my house in 07', i parked the mm over a friends house (on the street) while we used his pick up for the move, when his neighbor decided she was such a great driver she could back out of her drive way with out looking! well a front drivers side fender, and front, and rear doors is what i needed to repair it, $6,800 in damages!

Avoided?? Sorry to hear about your accident.
I try to anticipate the stupidest thing that someone can do in front of me (e.g. like pull out of a lot into traffic or cross in front without adequate clearance) and prepare for WHEN it happens (Not IF it happens). Just anticipating the problem and possibly going into the "Hover" mode over the brake pedal can cut your reaction time by 1/2 second or even more. At 45 MPH, that 1/2 second represents a distance of 33 feet and may just give you that added time and space to "miss" the offending vehicle.
Over the years, this ^^^^ anticipation technique has allowed me to escape many close calls on the road. There appears to be NO limit to stupid on the highways.
..... and don't get me started on cellphones, texters and BB fools. :mad2:

One MUST anticipate--the latest thing I've noticed is that lots of drivers don't stop at stop signs. The give a quick look, then just breeze through and then you're forced to hit the brake.

That right there is very sensible advice. Which I have to do a more diligent job of practicing.... It is definitely getting worse out there.

I have been driving with my left foot lightly touching the brake pedal for more years than I can count.
Eight seperate car/deer strikes will do that to a person though. I keep my all my brakes "covered" while on the cycle too.
