View Full Version : Our boy Jax

We took delivery of our new baby boy on Friday evening. He is 9 lbs 6 oz and 19 inches in length. We named him Jax Wagter. Jax is getting along well with his big sister Samantha. Some fluffy tail and paw wapping but nothing too serious. Today was a big day for Jax as we took him to Petco, Petsmart, and Tractor Supply. Everyone loved him! And he was a good boy during his first adventure, even falling asleep on Gordon's lap.

Judging from the first pic of them together, Samantha doesn't look 100% sold on her new house companion... ;)

Hey Mom & Dad!!!

Congratulations, good-looking pup. I liked the "face-off" pics of Sam & Jax. Looks like they will get along. Is the other kitty steering clear of all the excitement?

Ladyhawke
01-09-2011, 08:26 AM
Thanks Everyone!!

Well his dad is about 145 lb and his mom is about 120 lb so he will get somewhere between those numbers, maybe bigger.

Samantha and Jax are getting along well. Actually we are very surprised at how well it is going.

Your right Connie, Missy is steering clear of all of the excitement. Her ears perk up everytime she hears a bark.

Boerboels are unusual to see around here. I love the look of them. I don't know anything about them as far as being a pet. I do know of the breed's history. A friend at work has been considering getting one as a companion to his two year old Rottie.
Did you happen to see the episode of Cesar Milan with Patti LaBelle's Boerboel ?

Thanks everyone and yes I know he is cuter then me. The Boerboel is a non-aggressive guard dog breed for good temperament. They are family orientated and consider every member of the household as part of their pack. They are neither AKC nor UKC approved breed, which I am happy about. They have their own registry which is the SABBA/SABT located in South Africa.

Samantha and Jax are getting along just fine, she will sneak up behind him and give him a swat on the butt. She does not hiss or hit him too hard just enough to let him know who is boss.

Look at the size of those paws!

He's gonna be a big boy! He'll be fine raised with cats. They'll be his sisters. Otto sleeps with our two, even gives up his bed for them to have. Heck Otto even taught himself to purr so he gets petted more, just like a kitty. Funniest thing you've ever seen.

How much time do you have during the day?

The breeder will give away a two year old, but she needs a lot of attention, seperation issues. But, she is a good bear dog.

Oh I WISH Gordon. Time, besides landlord issues, is one reason I don't have a dog already. I leave at 7 and am not home until after 7. It wouldn't be fair to the lil guy.

One day.... one day my puppy :puppy:and I (and Paul  lol) will take a cruise in our (one day) Marauder.

He's a beaut, but you can't leave a dog like that alone in your home for 12 hrs and expect to have a home left when you return. They get bored and you pay the consequences.

We had a harness for our previous male Rotty, Duke. He used to pull Brittany on a sleigh all over town. He was so proud and she just loved it. Rotties were used to pull milk carts in Germany. Otto is too tempermental, 95% temper, 5% mental... That and the harness won't fit him.

As far as clean up? Have fun. At least you only have one. I used to have two. It was like having two humans using my fenced in back yard as a toliet... I'm fortunate to have forest land right up to my fence. I just toss it over in the woods. Good fertalizer for the trees.

He is only home alone for 6hrs a day and has plenty of toys to chew.

And the wagon idea is a good one. I am also thinking of making an agility course in my yard.

I put a dog size door in the back of the garage so they can go inside to get out of the weather. That way they can also protect the garage too. Has worked out real well. Rottweilers are climbers so I had to go with a 6 foot high fence made of pressure treated lumber and chain link with 2x6" top rail. That way they couldn't easily climb over. I also sunk 2x8's below ground to keep them from digging out. I used the house, garage and outbuilding as much as possible to minimize cost or it would have gotten real $$$ even with us doing the work. Duke, aka: Dogdini, never was able to get out. He did from everything else we tried. My cousin swears by that in ground fence, but that doesn't keep people out. Ask me sometime about the the two fools peddling their God on Christmas morning that walked into our house...
