View Full Version : How rare are original Mercury Cyclone Spoilers?

I was driving home last night with the family and a familiar shape hit my eye. A tow truck was flat-bedding a red mercury cyclone spoiler in rough but good lucking shape around I'd guess 7pm in the slow lane.

My eyes went

Tried to take some pictures with my cell phone camera but it was too dark and the street lights were too dim. But just wow, headed off in a direction way out of the way and I needed to get home. But perhaps some one is getting a new project somewhere in the Bronx?

Anyone know if there's a Cyclone Spoiler forum to reach out too? :D

I've got a 1970 Cyclone GT 351 - C4 in Competition Yellow. The engine has been rebuilt, the engine compartment is painted, but the rest of the car is awaiting it's restoration.
My brother now has what was also mine, a Green '70 Cyclone GT, with the same engine trans combo as mine. He is much further along in his restoration than I am. His is on the road, and the body has been repainted.
There had been a registry for the Cyclones that was run by Robert Day, but I don't know if he is still doing it.
Go to Fords at Carlisle, there is usually a respectable turn out of Cyclones there.

The were more Spoilers produced in 1970, than in '71. I believe the Spoiler name was first used for the 1969 cars. And of course for 1969, there was the Dan Gurney and Cale Yarborough editions of the Spoilers.
The Spoilers are an under appreciated group of cars.

Judging by the decal and front end in pictures, I'm pretty sure I saw a '71. Thanks for the link and details, these were definitely cool cars.
