So i just installed a set of 10k hids yesterday. I connected them directly to the ballast's and i noticed a little flicker. Not like a strobe light flicker. So i took everything apart and installed my relay and STILL and tiny flicker. Does anybody have any idea what the problem is? Everything works fine, its just that dam flicker. :mad2:

it might be low voltage you may need to rewire your car lighting!!

do they flicker when you start the car, or constantly after the car is running?

they constantly do it. It isnt a constant pattern either. I just tried hooking the ballasts up to the cancellers and that didnt do anything. Then i tried hooking the cancellers to the relay then to the ballasts and that didnt work. And i dont think its low volts cause im able to run a 2400 watt amp to 2 15" subwoofers. I tried everything. Bulb directly to the ballasts etc. Nothing works. Tomorrow, i'll try to get a vid up of the flickering so you guys can see what exactly im talking about.

yes the video may help, what brand kit do you have?

kit maybe defective

i bought my kit from http://hidnation.com/9007hidkits.html. I have the regular ballast, relay, and canceller. It isnt the bi xenon kit. The low beam is bright enough.

when your bulb is mounted in the housing make sure there in correctly with the long thin rod portion of the bulb pointing to the bottom of the housing.

i thought the bulbs only went in one way. And if they werent pointing in the right direction how would that effect anything? i THINK the long portion is to the side of the housing with the high beam to the left of it. But even when its like that, my high beam still flips up even though its not on the top.

Why did you install "cancelers"? And what are they? I installed HIDs in the headlights & fog lights... didn't use "cancelers"
bigdhasmoney
01-22-2011, 09:49 PM
I didnt install the cancellers. I only installed the relay and ballasts. I only tried the cancellers to see if it would stop the flickering but it didnt. :)

Oh and a canceller cable helps eliminate the flickering that is caused by the vehicles computer not recognizing the hid bulb. It solves computer errors.

Just took my kit out of my marauder. Mine weren't working properly at times, so I ripped them out of my car. THe kit in my motorcycle is doing the same thing. I think I am DONE with HID kits. Went back to my silverstars and they work just fine.

Junk kits and improper installs is the common causes for HID problems.
Zero problems in the MM beside one bulb not actuating but that's a warranty problem. Second kit has been working fine and kit in my 08 Taurus has worked flawless since March of last year.

I just ordered my HID 35W Raptors from DDM Tuning for both headlights and fogs. I will let you know how it goes.

I had the same problem. Most likely you need a new ballast. They are all the same you must of got a bad batch of ballasts.

Name fits you well since this is your first and only post in like 2.5 years. lol
There are several hid kit brands being thrown around in the thread and no they are not all the same, technology is the same but quality of parts and where they scavenger their parts from can be different.
One way to kill a ballast quickly is to leave the lights on AUTO and then start the car up. It sends a voltage drop and then a voltage spike to the ballast and can mess them and the igniters (internal inside the ballast or external inline)

So that may explain why when I bought Tallboys car, the AUTO was switched off. I've been manually turning them on thinking that left in auto may decrease the life of the LCM.
Any truth to that?

I can't say for sure on stock halogen lights but I know that the voltage crank drop and then spike back up will decrease the life of an aftermarket HID ballast. It is possible though for sure. That quick moment in crank drops the voltage to most things cause the starter is drawing so much voltage.

Did you get the single beam or hi/low kit? Either one make sure the metal arm that runs the length of the bulb is on the bottom of when the bulb is in the housing. It does make a difference when it is in the top position and scatters the light even more.

yeh its on the bottom. I got just the low beam. But there still super bright. I put them in and the first person to see me flashed me. 55 watt.

I've had my HID Hi & Lo's for over a year and no one has flashed me. Sounds like a headlight adjustment is needed.

55 watt is overkill in the halogen housing. 35 Watt is PLENTY.

Yep cause what happens if you need to flash someone, opps no high beams.

Yep, I'd say the same thing.

My friend and I installed a universal kit in his truck last weekend, only to have the bulbs burn through the housing that night.
I don't know what these bulbs were rated at, but the kit was absurd. It was like 200 bucks for two hi-lo bulbs, four ballasts, and a wiring harness. Also had terrible light dispersion no matter which direction the metal tabs were in relation to the housing.
